PBR OK Sandlot Scout Day Upgrade: LHP Analysis

The third annual PBR Sandlot Scout Day was held at Broken Arrow HS on May 18th and at Oklahoma Christian on May 19th. This two day event feature most players in Sandlot organization. Covered here are only those players who chose to upgrade to a PBR profile at the event.

Grayson Adams LHP / OF / Bethany, OK / 2021

A 6-foot-2, 165-pound long and projectable frame. On the mound, the left-hander works only from the stretch with a moderate leg kick before striding down the mound and finishing balanced towards the dish. Arm action is long and easy in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot. Fastball sits 78-80 touching 81 mph with heavy arm-side run, mostly strikes. Curveball sits 66-67 mph with 1/7 shape and gradual depth, some strikes. Changeup shows some fade, mostly strikes at 73-74 mph.

Owen Bailor 1B / LHP / Bixby, OK / 2023

A 6-foot, 158-pound  frame with room to add size and strength. On the mound, the left-hander works from an average tempo delivery with rhythm and a moderate leg kick that he repeats well for his age. Arm action is long and fluid in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot with looseness. Fastball flashes some arm-side run at 68-70 mph, some strikes. Changeup shows consistent fade at 61-63 mph, some strikes. 

Joe Grantham LHP / OF / Heritage Hall, OK / 2021

A 6-foot-2, 190-pound advanced and muscular frame. On the mound, the left-hander works from a slightly up tempo delivery that is still developing with a high leg kick before striding across his body and finishing balanced towards the dish. Arm action is long and loose in the back coming through a low-¾ slot with cross fire action. Fastball sat 76-79 mph with cut to the glove side and run to the arm side. Slider is still developing at 63-68 mph.

Emanuel Jeter OF / LHP / Tuttle, OK / 2021

A 5-foot-9, 155-pound durable frame with some strength throughout. On the mound the left-hander works from a controlled delivery with rhythm that repeats well, uses a moderate leg kick and an abbreviated closed stride before finishing very balanced and towards the dish. Arm action is quick and fluid in the back with moderate length before coming through a ¾ slot. Fastball sits 76-77 touching 78 mph with consistent sink and arm-side run, almost all strikes. Curveball shows 1/7 shape with some tight spin and late action at 65-67 mph, mostly strikes. 

Logan Lagasse OF / LHP / Cashion, OK / 2020

A 5-foot-10, 160 pound lean frame. On the mound, the left-hander works from an average tempo delivery with a moderate leg kick before sinking into his back side, driving to the dish and finishing towards the dish. Arm action is fluid in the back with moderate length before coming through an over the top slot. Fastball flashes cut at 80-83 mph, nearly all strikes. Curveball has 1/7 shape with rolling action, commanded to both sides of the dish at 64-67 mph. Changeup is still developing, showing cutting action at times, 74-76 mph. 

Kyndon Lovell LHP / OF / Lookeba-Sickles, OK / 2022

A  6-foot, 160-pound lean frame with some strength throughout. On the mound, the left-hander works from a slightly up  tempo delivery with a moderate leg kick before driving down the mound with excellent leg drive, finishing slightly to the third base side. Arm action is very short and fluid in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot. Fastball sits 88-89 mph with slight arm-side run, mostly strikes. Curveball is already advanced with a chance to be a plus pitch with 1/7 shape, tight spin, exploding late depth, and thrown for strikes and as a wipe out pitch at 75-76 mph. Changeup shows arm-side run, thrown with full arm speed at 74-75 mph. 

Payne Maga LHP / 1B / Norman, OK / 2020

A 5-foot-11, 160-pound proportional frame with some wiry strength. On the mound, the left-hander works from an abbreviated and up tempo delivery with rhythm and a moderate leg kick before gliding down the mound and finishing to the first base side. Arm action is long, fluid and loose in the back before coming through a ¾ slot. Fastball sits 78-80 mph, keeping its plane with the four seam and showing some arm-side run with the two seam, almost all stikes. Breaking ball sits 67-71mph showing 2/8 slurvy action at times and others showing more 12/6 action . Changeup is thrown with full arm speed at 72-73 mph with heavy arm side run and sink. All pitches thrown for strikes to both sides of the plate with advanced command. 

Brennan Phillips LHP / OF / Owasso, OK / 2022

The Oklahoma State commit has a 6-foot-, 155-pound lean and projectable frame. On the mound, the left-hander works from a controlled tempo delivery with a high leg kick before gliding down the mound and finishing balanced towards the dish. Arm action is long, loose, fluid, and controlled in the back before coming through a near over the top arm slot. Fastball sits 78-80 touching 81 mph, keeping its plane, nearly all strikes. Curveball has 1/7 shape with rolling action at 67-68 mph. Changeup shows consistent arm-side run at 73-74 mph. Slider/cutter shows some late depth and short East-West action at 71-73 mph. All pitches thrown for consistent strikes.  

Cole San Nicolas LHP / OF / Bixby, OK / 2022

A 6-foot-2, 165-pound frame with lots of room to add size and strength. On the mound, the left-hander works only from the stretch with a controlled and moderate leg kick before sinking into his back side and striding way down the mound, spinning off to the third base side. Arm action is very long in the back with a quick change of direction at the bottom of the arm stroke before coming through a near over the top slot. Fastball ranges 75-79 mph with consistent arm-side run, few strikes. Curveball shows big rolling action with 1/7 shape at 58-59 mph, few strikes. Changeup has consistent sink and fade at 63-65 mph, few strikes. 

Jaxon Smith LHP / 1B / Seminole, OK / 2022

A 5-foot-9, 160-pound proportional frame. On the mound, the left-hander works from a slightly up tempo delivery with a short leg lift before striding closed down the mound and finishing slightly to the third base side. Arm action is very short in the back before coming through a ¾ slot. Fastball keeps its plane at 76-77 mph, some strikes. Curveball has rolling action and 1/7 shape at 62-64 mph, mostly strikes. Changeup shows consistent sink at 61-63 mph, some strikes. 

Blake Williams LHP / OF / Bixby, OK / 2021

A 6-foot, 170-pound, lean and athletic frame with room to add more size and strength. On the mound, the left-hander works from a simple and average tempo delivery with a moderate leg kick before sinking into his back leg and driving towards the dish. Arm action is long and quick in the back before coming through an over the top slot. Fastball sits 77-79 mph, keeping its plane, mostly strikes. Curveball has 12/6 shape with some late depth at 65-66 mph, mostly strikes. Changeup has some fade at 71-73 mph, some strikes.
