RECENT COMMITMENTS

Mason Dobie SS / 2B / Georgian Bay Community, ON / 2021

Report: Dobie commits to Dayton University as a 2021 graduate after standing out to the Flyers at the Future Games in Georgia this past August. The left-handed hitting infielder has smooth actions on the infield with the ability to play both positions on the left side with soft hands and enough arm strength to get it done. At the plate, it’s a balanced setup with feel and athleticism in the box. There is hit tool to work with and there will be more power to come as he adds strength to his 6-foot-2, 175-pound frame. Dobie is a nice pick up as the victory lap will give him extra time to become physical and have a good chance to contribute right away once he steps on campus.

David Calabrese OF / St. Elizabeth CHS, ON / 2020

Report: One of the top prospects in the country is now officially off the board as Calabrese made his announcement this week that he will become a Razorback and head to Arkansas. The toolsy and athletic centre-fielder is a prototypical top of the order bat with his ability to use the whole field with hard contact and be a threat on the bases with his elite speed. He can stick at centre-field and is another Future Game participant, Power 5 commit to come out of Ontario.

Brendan Mahood OF / RHP / Catholic Central, ON / 2021

Report: Mahood is a left-handed hitting catcher with bat speed and chance to tap into some power potential as he continues to polish his game. He does not get cheated at the plate with a best 88 mph exit velocity from his most recent PBR event, there will be strength and bat speed to come as he makes physical gains. From the outfield, the arm plays and shows good carry coming out the hand. A nice get for Salem International where the left-handed bat of Mahood should slot in nicely.

Nicholas Thibodeau C / Notre Dame Catholic, ON / 2020

Report: Thibodeau was a standout this summer with the Ontario Royals and made big strides that led up to T12 where he was easily one of the top catching prospects of the tournament. There is arm strength out the hand that works to the bag defensively and shows ability to handle the rigors that comes with day to day catching. Offensively, Thibodeau is a strong and physical right-handed hitter with power that can leave any ballpark. The bat speed produces exit velos in the mid to high 90’s and shown ability to drive the ball nott only to his pull side, but the big part of the ball field as well. He is rated the top catching prospect in Ontario’s 2020 class and Howard JC is getting a player with the ability to be a middle of the order bat while playing a premier position.

Mathew Duffy 3B / RHP / Assumption, ON / 2020

Report: Duffy, a 2020 athletic right-hander has been excellent on the mound the past few months and the 6-foot-1, 190-pound came to a decision this week with the announcement of him committing to Canisius. Duffy works from a loose, and easy ¾ slot while the curveball is the more advanced secondary pitch at the moment with his ability to use with tight and late action, garnering swings and misses. He will use his changeup when needed, and the pitch has made strides late into the fall for Duffy. Canisius seems to be a great fit and we expect to continue to hear about Duffy dominating hitters into his senior 2020 season, and beyond at Canisius in the MAC.
