Langley Blaze Pro Tour: Quick Hits (vs. Cubs)

Cam Black-Araujo/Josh Arce
PBR Canada Staff

With Spring Training wrapped up and now behind us, our staff has moved onto Arizona to get a look at some of Canada's top players including several MLB Draft prospects as they take on pro squads and colleges on the Langley Blaze Pro Tour.

The current roster down here in the Phoenix area includes a good chunk of players from the Blaze program, as well as some of Ontario's top prospects, other top players in BC and the rest of the country including a handful of Americans.

Our first stop while following the team was at the Chicago Cubs complex in Mesa where we saw several big-times arms, some intriguing uncommitted arms, as a couple of the top positional prospects in the country. Our staff also got to catch up and see former Super 60 and MLB Draft League arm, Dominic Hambley, as the B.C. native got the start for the Cubs.

langley blaze pro tour: quick hits (vs. cubs)

Parker Burgess RHP / TNXL Academy, ON / 2023

2023 RHP Parker Burgess was the best arm on the day for the Langley Blaze, sitting 88-90 T91 with the fastball. He attacked hitters with both the fastball and curveball as he didn’t want any hitters through two innings. He was getting swings/misses on both pitches and the breaking ball was 71-75 with some horizontal break to it. He was able to keep the curveball down in the zone for strikes or pound it in the dirt when needed. Our first look this year and it was an effective  outing for Burgess. Illinois commit.

Makaio Cisneros RHP / OF / All Saints Catholic secondary school, ON / 2024

2024 RHP Makaio Cisneros looked good during his outing today against the Cubs prospects. Strike pumper with an athletic, repeatable delivery with the ability to throw his 4-pitch mix out of the same arm slot. He spun the CB and SL for strikes and got multiple swing-and-misses on the CH for K’s. Cisneros ability to throw all of his pitches for strikes with consistency will keep him in the starting rotation at the next level. Strong outing from the UCF commit.

Jorge Valdes OF / Bishop Reding, ON / 2024

2024 OF Jorge Valdes was the leadoff man for Langley on Sunday and opened it up with a base knock the other way. He swiped third base before coming around to score and we immediately got a look at his speed and hit tools. Showed well in the outfield throughout the game with ability to cover ground and track down balls. Continues to stand out each time our staff gets eyes on him. West Virginia commit.

Cameron Macleod C / 1B / Argyle, BC / 2023

2023 C Cam Macleod looked extremely comfortable in the box in the middle of the Blaze lineup against the Cubs prospects, putting two good swings on deep fly balls to the big part of the field. Nothing to show for it this time out, but Macleod was in rhythm and on time against some high velo arms. The former Future Gamer looked good behind the plate as well, throwing out a runner trying to advance on a block at 3B. Good overall day for the Cloud County commit on both sides of the ball. Cloud County commit.

Kyu Lumsdon RHP / N/A, BC / 2024

‘24 RHP Kyu Lumsdon was intriguing uncommitted 2024 who took the mound Sunday for the Blaze. The fastball velocity was just 81-84 but he did a good job of mixing his offspeed to work his way effectively through the Cubs lineup. 6-foot-2, 175-pound right-hander who works with an effortless delivery from an over the top slot. Curveball was 65-66 while the changeup was 75. An arm to keep tabs on in the West Coast summer as he continues to develop.
