Ontario Blue Jays 18U Roumel vs. Etobicoke Rangers 18U - 3.11.18

Spring Training trips have been an annual occurrence over March Break for dozens of teams in Ontario, but for the first time, Prep Baseball Report Ontario is on the ground covering those teams as they play their first games of the year.

With the indoor workouts officially done across Canada, PBR Ontario is on site in Florida, covering club teams for the week, before making its way to St. Petersburg to watch the Canadian Junior National Team, which is also taking the field for the first time in 2018.

The first game on tour didn’t disappoint, as the Ontario Blue Jays 18U Roumel took on the Etobicoke Rangers 18U in Fort Pierce, it what was a high-octane offensive game. Here, we also got our first outdoor look at Canada’s top high school prospect, and Texas A&M commit, Noah Naylor.

Naylor, ranked No. 11 in PBR’s overall rankings, showed the obvious signs of rust that come from being indoors for numerous months. Still, he did what he does best - working into deep counts, seeing pitches, and finding a barrel while running out a hustle double on what looked like a routine single up the middle.

Other OBJ standouts included Northeastern Oklahoma A&M commit Tyler Small, who notched an opposite-field double, and uncommitted shortstop Ryan Johnston, who looked in mid-season form at the plate.

For Etobicoke, Cam Hahnfeld showed off the jump in his bat, as he scorched two doubles, one to the right-center gap, while one-hopping the left-center fence later in the game. Uncommitted 2019 catcher George Cuthbert also provided some offense with a bases-clearing double to the opposite field.

As the days go by, PBR Ontario will be giving live coverage on Canadian teams, and top performers from around the state as we travel from ballpark to ballpark. Keep an eye on our social media channels, as well as our updated Ontario Scout Blog for everything you need to know about our Florida Spring Training Tour.
