Commitment Tracker: January 17 - 24, 2019

A big week of news kicks off with 14 commitments from across North Carolina with 12 of the 14 coming from the 2019 class.  Of the 12 seniors committing, 9 committed to in-state Junior College programs.  The highest ranked player in the 2019 class to commit was catcher CJ Martin (Pro5 Academy).  Martin was one of four catchers to come off the board.  The catching class of 2019 in North Carolina is extremely deep, with several uncommitted back stops that should help a program in the coming years.

The Air Force Academy is back in North Carolina, taking another solid prospect in Myers Park HS LHP Crawford Wade.  Wade was impressive at a Scout Day for PBR this past fall and should be a key contributor to a very good Myers Park club this spring.

Jacob Jenkins-Cowart (CIF, Southeast Guilford HS, 2021) committed to East Carolina.  A very projectable frame at 6-foot-5, 200 pounds, Jenkins-Cowart profiles as a potential middle of the order threat for the Pirates in the future.

One player re-opened his recruiting process this past week when Justin Poris (RHP, Mooresville HS, 2019) decommitted from the Spartans of UNC Greensboro.  Poris was a name to follow through the spring of 2018 where is pitch-ability and clean arm action brought evaluators to his starts.  In the summer, a velocity jump created a buzz.  PBR was on hand in mid-July when the 5-foot-11, 170 pound righty ranged 85-90, settling at 85-88 in his 3rd inning.  You can see the full report and video in the link below:
