Eastern PA College Prospect Showcase: Corner Infield Analysis

The Eastern PA College Prospect Showcase took place yesterday at Cooper Park on the campus of Millersville University. Today we continue a series of articles analyzing the prospects in attendance with a look at those players that participated as primary corner infielders.

Top Prospects

Michael May, Solanco HS, Class of 2020, 1B/RHP
6-foot-3, 205-pound right-handed hitter led his high school team in nearly every offensive category this spring. He starts from an open stance and initiates his swing with a controlled, toe-tap stride. He showcased rhythm and balance throughout with an advanced feel for the barrel during a strong round of batting practice. Registered a bat exit velocity of 88 mph and ran a 7.13 60-yard dash. Showcased solid footwork and a soft glove around the bag at first base with accurate 75 mph arm strength across the diamond. The righty also sat 74-78 from a high 3/4 arm slot with some arm-side run to his fastball on the mound. Commanded a curveball with 11/5 rotation at 58-62 as his secondary pitch.

Christopher McLean, North Penn HS, Class of 2020, 3B
5-foot-11, 192-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showcased a line drive, middle of the field approach while consistently squaring the baseball during a solid round of batting practice. Registered a bat exit velocity of 86 mph and ran a 7.52 60-yard dash. Above average defender showcased active feet and a soft glove hand while routinely playing through the baseball. Displayed good carry on throws of 82 mph across the diamond from an over-the-top arm slot.

Andrew Bates, Newport HS, Class of 2022, 3B
6-foot-3, 185-pound right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and utilizes a short, leg-hang stride to begin. Displayed a feel for the barrel and the ability to create some backspin. Registered a bat exit velocity of 87 mph and ran a 7.09 60-yard dash. Showcased developing defensive skills with a tendency to cut off his lower half on throws of 70 mph across the diamond. 

Aidan Brinker, Penns Valley HS, Class of 2021, 3B
6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed some feel for the barrel and a middle of the field approach with some length to his swing. Registered a bat exit velocity of 82 mph and ran a 7.71 60-yard dash. Showcased capable actions defensively with a short, quick release. 78 mph arm strength will improve with an effort to play through the baseball.

Zachary Dilbeck, Fleetwood Area HS, Class of 2023, 3B/RHP
5-foot-9, 145-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and uses a quick, leg-lift stride to begin. The underclassman showed rhythm and balance to his swing with a solid feel for the barrel. Registered a bat exit velocity of 82 mph and ran a 7.85 60-yard dash. Showcased developing defensive skills with accurate 64 mph arm strength across the diamond. The righty sat 71-75 out of a high 3/4 arm slot off the mound. Also showcased a curveball with tight 11/5 rotation at 62-65 and a changeup with some arm-side run at 64-67. Solid overall skill set will continue to improve with strength gains and physical maturity.

Sean Lucas, Barnegat HS (NJ), Class of 2020, 3B
5-foot-9, 165-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Stays behind the baseball routinely and showed some feel for the barrel. Registered a bat exit velocity of 77 mph and ran a 7.27 60-yard dash. Developing defensive skills at third base included 68 mph arm strength from a short arm action across the diamond. Work to lengthen his throwing motion and to play through the baseball will be necessary to be able to handle defensive chores at the next level.

Jon Pinciotti, Council Rock South HS, Class of 2021, 3B
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showed a flat barrel path through the zone with some length to his swing. Registered a bat exit velocity of 83 mph and ran a 7.70 60-yard dash. Showcased a soft glove hand and gains ground consistently on throws of 78 mph across the diamond.

Justin Stefanowicz, Hanover Area HS, Class of 2020, 3B
5-foot-10, 205-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to begin. Showcased a direct swing path with a middle of the field approach. Registered a bat exit velocity of 85 mph and ran an 8.00 60-yard dash. Showcased capable glove work with average 68 mph arm strength across the diamond defensively.

Blaine Waltimyer, Owen J. Roberts HS, Class of 2022, 3B
6-foot, 140-pound left-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a short, leg-hang stride to begin. Displayed balance and rhythm throughout with a flat barrel path through the zone. Showed above average feel for the barrel and a swing that will work consistently at the next level. Registered a bat exit velocity of 81 mph and ran an 7.78 60-yard dash. Footwork needs to improve defensively. Mus work harder to beat the baseball to the spot. Arm action is clean and accurate at 73 mph across the diamond.

Ethan Westerberg, Lower Dauphin HS, Class of 2020, 3B/RHP
6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and begins his swing with a toe-tap stride. A tendency to commit to the front side early leads to some length int he swing. Registered a bat exit velocity of 81 mph and ran an 8.32 60-yard dash. Showcased active feet and routinely plays through the baseball defensively with accurate 77 mph arm strength across the diamond. The righty sat 76-77 from a high 3/4 arm slot on the mound. Also showcased a curveball at 62-63 with 10/4 rotation and command of a changeup at 70-71.
