Eastern PA College Prospect Showcase: Middle Infield Analysis

The Eastern PA College Prospect Showcase took place yesterday at Cooper Park on the campus of Millersville University. Today we continue a series of articles analyzing the prospects in attendance with a look at those players that participated as primary middle infielders.

Top Prospect

Sam BurmanSam Burman, Friends Central School, Class of 2022, 2B
5-foot-10, 180-pound left-handed hitter showcased an advanced feel for the barrel and an ability to make consistent hard contact to all fields during a very solid round of batting practice. He starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a short, lift-and-replace stride. Showcased solid balance and a direct swing path. Registered a bat exit velocity of 78 mph and ran a 7.38 60-yard dash. A capable defender with developing 70 mph arm strength across the diamond. With room and time to add strength to his frame and eventual move to a corner infield position or the outfield is likely. Current offensive abilities make him a player to watch in this class.

Carter Alwan, Dallastown Area HS, Class of 2021, 2B/RHP
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to start. Showcased a direct swing path with a line drive approach. Registered a bat exit velocity of 79 mph and ran a 7.33 60-yard dash. Displayed accurate 70 mph arm strength across the diamond defensively with fundamentally sound mechanics best suited for second base at this point in his maturation. The righty sat 74-75 from an over-the-top arm slot on the mound. Also flashed an above average slider with sharp, late action at 65-67 and command of his changeup at 68-70.

Josh Burger, Montoursville HS, Class of 2021, SS/RHP
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a short, leg-hang stride. Displayed solid fell for the barrel with a middle of the field approach. Registered a bat exit velocity of 83 mph and ran a 7.59 60-yard dash. Showcased active feet defensively with a capable glove and accurate 78 mph arm strength across the diamond. The righty sat 78-79 while topping at 80 mph off the mound out of a high 3/4 arm slot. Also showed a curveball with 11/5 rotation at 62-66, and command of a changeup with natural cut at 68-71.

Dalton Follweiler, Muhlenberg HS, Class of 2023, 2B/RHP
5-foot-5, 115-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showed a flat barrel path through the zone with an ability to use all fields. Registered a bat exit velocity of 74 mph and ran an 8.20 60-yard dash. The underclassman showed developing defensive skills with accurate 66 mph arm strength across the diamond. The righty sat 70-71 from a high 3/4 arm slot on the mound with some natural cut to his fastball. His curveball at 61/62 is a pitch in development. Also showed a changeup at 64-67 at near fastball arm speed.

Mitchell Kleman, Lower Dauphin HS, Class of 2020, 2B/RHP
5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a toe-tap stride to begin. Showcased a direct swing path with the ability to use all fields during a solid round of batting practice. Registered an 81 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.22 60-yard dash. Moves well laterally defensively and showcased active feet with accurate 74 mph arm strength across the diamond. The righty sat 75-77 out of a high 3/4 arm slot on the mound. Also showed command of a curveball with tight 11/5 rotation at 62-64.
