Fall Kickoff Showcase Analysis: Class of 2019 (Part One)

The Fall Kickoff Showcase on August 16th officially marked the beginning of the fall schedule of PBR events in Pennsylvania. Today we continue a series of articles analyzing those prospects in attendance by taking a look at half of the prospects in attendance in the Class of 2019.

TOP PROSPECTs

Colby MartinColby Martin, 2B/OF, Warwick HS (PA)
5-foot-11,165-pounder showcased easy athleticism in all his actions while running an event best 6.59 60-yard dash. The right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a quiet, lift-and-replace stride. Hands work well through contact and he clears lower half allowing hands to work freely. Went 3-for-5 with a triple in game action with a bat exit velocity of 84 mph. Also barreled a ball for an out to dead center field at 390 feet. Showcased the ability to play multiple infield positions as well as in the outfield. Foot speed and 82 mph arm strength play well in center field, but is capable of playing nearly anywhere on the diamond. 

Brenden MoshosBrenden Moshos, C, Manheim Township HS (PA)
5-foot-10, 160-pounder flashed advanced catch and throw abilities with pop times of 1.96-2.05 on throws of 78 mph from the crouch. Also showcased similar pop times during three games of tournament action. Quiet receiver beats the baseball to the spot and presents a soft wall when blocking. 7.05 runner is a switch-hitter with a line drive approach from the right side of the plate and a bit longer swing path with more pop from the left side. Displayed solid plate discipline in game action with four walks in seven official at bats. Registered 84 mph bat exit velocity and showed the ability create backspin from the left side.

Lance Baldensperger, OF, Warren Area HS (PA)
5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a knee-to-knee stride to initiate his swing. Showcased a flat barrel path through the zone and the ability to drive the right-center field gap. Went 2-for-6 with a triple and a walk in game action while driving in four runs in the opening game of the tournament. Registered an 85 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 6.91 60-yard dash. Displayed athletic actions defensively with solid routes to the baseball and accurate 76 mph arm strength to home plate.

Josh Farina, OF, Warwick HS (PA)
5-foot-10, 150-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed a line drive approach with a feel for the barrel and a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. Went 1-for-3 with a walk in game action and ran a 7.20 60-yard dash. Moves well in the outfield and tracks the ball well. Showcased accurate 77 mph arm strength to home plate.

Danny Guichard, RHP, Fairport HS (NY)
5-foot-10, 180-pound right-hander sat 80-81 from a high 3/4 arm slot with arm-side run to his fastball. Some hip coil to his delivery adds some deception. Curveball showed rolling 11/5 rotation at 66-69. Changeup was thrown at near fastball arm speed at 73-74. Delivery is balanced and repeatable. With solid frame and mechanics additional velocity spikes are possible moving forward.

Kaden Keely, LHP, Franklin Area HS (PA)
6-foot, 170-pound lefty sat 78-80 from a high 3/4 arm slot. Showed balance to his high knee delivery and repeated well with a feel for four pitches. Curveball at 70-71 showed 1/7 rotation while slider at same velocity had a flatter, later break. Changeup is a quality 4th pitch thrown with good sell at 75-77. Quality uncommitted left-hander that should draw interest this fall with a chance to add additional strength to his frame.

Ronnie Neidigh, OF/RHP, West Perry HS (PA)
5-foot-5, 125-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to initiate his swing. Showcased a direct swing path with a line drive approach in batting practice. Registered a 77 mph bat exit velocity and went 3-for-5 with a walk in game action. Showcased athletic actions while playing through the baseball defensively with accurate 83 mph arm strength from the outfield. Sat 74-78 off of the mound from a 3/4 arm slot with some natural cut to his fastball. Also showcased a slider at 63-66 and a changeup thrown at near fastball arm speed at 62-64.

Aaron Strosser, 2B/SS, Lewisburg Area HS (PA)
5-foot-8, 160-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates a swing dominated by his upper half with a lift-and-replace stride. Registered a 77 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.27 60-yard dash. Displayed accurate 66 mph arm strength across the diamond defensively and a skill set best suited for second base.
