The PBR Fall Kickoff Showcase Tournament concluded yesterday with four teams playing a total of three games on the day.  Unfortunately the third game was shortened because of weather and the final game on the schedule had to be postponed.

Following is a brief look at highlights of game action from day three and those prospects that shined for their respective clubs.

day THREE results

Allegheny Pirates 6 vs. Pittsburgh Spikes 2

Brett PitzerLuke ViragShane Wockley

The Spikes scored the game's first run on a sacrifice fly by 2019 OF Brett Pitzer (Mohawk) and an RBI single from RHP/OF Luke Virag (Burrell) gave them an early 2-0 lead. The Pirates erupted for five runs in the 5th inning and added an insurance run in the 7th for the 6-2 final. Moon Area 2020 1B/LHP Shane Wockley (2-for-3) was the lone player in the Spikes lineup to register multiple hits.

2020 catcher Herb Gordon (Upper St. Clair, 2B), 2019 3B Mark Trotta (Seneca Valley, 3B, 2 RBI) and 2019 catcher Matt Wood (Pine-Richland, 2B) all had extra base hits in the decisive 5th inning.

2020 LHP Tony DeLawrence (Perkiomen Valley), 2020 RHP Ryan Basarab (West Chester East) and 2020 LHP Collin Beech (Warwick) combined to limit Spikes hitters to just two hits while striking out eight. Basarab was particularly effective in his three innings of hitless work facing just two over the minimum while striking out four. 2019 3B Marc Caggiano (Gateway, 3B), 2019 2B/OF Colby Martin (Warwick, 3B) and Collin Beech (2B) led the PBR Red offense with extra base hits. 2020 RHP/3B Patrick Toal (The Haverford School) also had a big day at the plate walking twice, stealing a base and drove in the game's first run with a two out single in the 1st inning.

What on paper appeared to be the match up of the tournament turned out to be as expected. Unfortunately rain prevented the completion of a well played game that was forced to be stopped after four complete innings.

2021 RHP Nick Bitsko (Central Bucks East) was electric in his two innings of work for the Generals sitting 90-93 with five strikeouts. 2020 LHP Matt Shepard (McDowell, 3 IP, 1 H, 3 K), 2021 RHP Tommy Beam (Pine-Richland, 1 IP, 1 K), and 2019 LHP Anthony Giordano (Archbishop Ryan, 2 IP, 1 H) were equally as effective in keeping a pair of potent offenses in check.

2019 3B Mark Trotta (Seneca Valley) and 2019 OF Connor Rakow (Franklin Area) registered hits for the Pirates. 2019 OF James Pello (Central Bucks East) recorded the lone hit for the Generals.
