Game Recap: Hershey at Lower Dauphin

By Greg Williams
Pennsylvania Director of Scouting

LOWER DAUPHIN 5, Hershey 4

Hershey scored a single run in the 1st, added two in the 3rd and one more in the 4th to build a 4-0 lead heading to the bottom of the 4th. Meanwhile senior right-hander Eric Larson was cruising allowing just three hits while not walking a batter. Hershey cut that lead in half in the bottom of the inning when OF Michael Geesaman, a Lackawanna JC recruit, walked and came home on a home run off the bat of 2018 OF Derek Wyld to cut the lead in half.

2018 RHP Will Manley entered in the 3rd inning and with the exception of a run allowed in the 4th inning worked efficiently the rest of the way to give the Falcons an opportunity to rally. Lower Dauphin benefited from the long ball again in the 5th inning when designated hitter Timmy Townsend launched a lead off home run to cut the lead to 4-3.

It appeared that the Falcons would tie the game and possibly take the lead in the bottom of the 6th after Jared Dunkle and Josh Saufley got the inning started with a double and and bunt single on successive at bats.  Saufley then stole second to give the Falcons two runners in scoring position with nobody out.  Reliever Jack Goulet however had other ideas as he induced a ground out, strikeout and fly ball to get out of the inning clinging to the 4-3 lead.

Manley retired Hershey in order in the top of the 7th inning setting up the heroics of the bottom of the inning.  Following a Geesaman single to lead off the inning 2019 1B Ryan Kutz, who went 2-for-4 on the afternoon, flied out for the 1st out of the inning.  Wyld then sent the Falcons home winners when he launched his 2nd home run of the day to right field for the walk off win.

Manley picked up the win in relief working five innings while allowing four hits with no earned runs.  He struck out four and did not walk a batter.

Townsend (2-4, HR, R, RBI), Geesaman (1-3, 2 R, BB), Wyld (3-4. 2 HR, 4 RBI, 2 R), Dunkle (2-3) and Saufley (2-3) led the Lower Dauphin 13 hit attack along with Kutz.  2017 2B Christian Corado (2-3, 2 RBI was the lone Hershey hitter with multiple hits.
