Mars 5, Fox Chapel 0

It has been said that good pitching wins in the postseason. On Thursday Mars road the right arm of 2020 RHP Joey Craska, a Virginia Tech commit, to a first round WPIAL 5A playoff win over Fox Chapel.

The junior went 6.2 innings, coming within one batter of completing the complete game shutout before reaching the mandatory pitch limit. Craska allowed six hits and two walks while striking out eight. The right-handed hitter also went 2-for-3 with a double at the plate while driving in the only run he would need.

Tyer Kowakowski (1-for-3, 3 RBI) and West Virginia commit J.J. Wetherholt (1-for-3, RBI) combined with Craska in the top three spots in the Mars batting order to provide much of the offensive damage.

With the win Mars (11-8) moves on to the second round of WPIAL playoff action where they will play West Allegheny which received a bye in the opening round. Fox Chapel's season came to a close with the loss at 10-8.
