Holy Ghost Prep 1, Bishop Shanahan 0

Hits were hard to come by on Tuesday as Holy Ghost Prep and Bishop Shanahan combined for eight hits (four each) in a game that decided the PIAA District One - 5A title.

Holy Ghost Prep (23-1) plated the game's only run in the bottom of the 3rd inning when Gage Moyer singled to open the frame, moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a two out single off the bat of Phil Stahl.

Uncommitted 2020 RHP John Neeld (6 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 7 K) and Lehigh recruit Ryan Staropoli (1 IP, 0 H, 1 K) kept Bishop Shanahan off the board to earn the win and save respectively. Catholic University recruit Matt Bertolami (6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K) was the hard luck loser for Bishop Shanahan (12-11).

Both teams will advance to the PIAA state tournament next week. Marple Newtown was a 12-2 winner over West Chester Rustin in the 3rd place game. All four teams will advance to the state tournament out of District One.
