Preseason All-State Showcase: Class of 2019

Of the close to 100 prospects to showcase their abilities over two days of the 2016 Preseason All-State Showcase, just three were current high school freshmen. Today we begin our analysis of the prospects in attendance by taking a look at the Class of 2019.

Class of 2019

SS Druw Mummau, Manheim Central HS (PA)
Advanced defensive actions for his age. Showcased good hands, a short, quick, repeatable arm stroke that generated accurate 75-mph throws across the diamond, and the body control to complete the slow roller play. Right handed hitter who ran a 7.08 60-yard dash and posted a 79-mph exit velocity, and whose hands work at the plate. Expect that latter quality to be accentuated and path to shorten some as he adds strength to his 5-foot-9, 155-pound frame.

OF Sean Hopkins, West Chester Rustin HS (PA)
Hopkins is a physical, 6-foot-1, 190-pound right-handed hitter that starts from an open stance. He initiates his swing with a short, leg-lift stride. Additional work to keep his hands higher in his load will add to already present power potential. Hopkins displayed above average barrel whip (89 mph bat exit velocity) and a feel for the barrel. The freshman ran an impressive 6.79 and showed capable defensive skills in the outfield with 81 mph arm strength from an over-the-top arm slot.

RHP Joseph Messina, Neumann-Goretti HS (PA)
5-foot-11, 165-pound righty with long levers. Sat 77-79 with a high leg, loose arm delivery. Excellent balance and an ease to delivery that screams multiple velocity spikes coming in next four years. Solid command of three pitches with some cut action to his changeup thrown at near-fastball arm speed. Showed above average feel for his 62 mph curveball with 11/5 shape. Very poised and in control of his body with present ability to command all three pitches for strikes.
