VA/DC 2017 Player of the Year Finalists: Part 1

This spring, Prep Baseball Report will be announcing State and a National High School Player of the Year. State Players of the Year will be announced at 5 pm Eastern on Monday, June 19. The Prep Baseball Report National Player of the Year will be announced on Thursday, June 22 at the same time. Numerous players in Virginia and DC have put together outstanding seasons that warrant consideration as our Player of the Year, over the rest of this week, we will shine a spotlight on the players that we considered as finalists for that honor. 

Last year, Battlefield lefthander Jake Agnos (East Carolina) won the Virginia/DC Player of the Year Award. See the rest of the 2016 Finalists and the 2016 All-PBR VA/DC Team. Later this month, we will announce the 2017 All-PBR VA/DC Team.

Luke Burton 2B/RHP Covenant School 2017 (Davidson)
Burton was named First Team All-VISAA Division II. He hits .462 this spring while stealing 25 bases and mashing 11 doubles and 3 triples, he also scored 42 runs. On the mound, Burton was 5-0 with a 1.85 ERA in 22.2 innings while striking out 37 batters.

Danny Hosley SS/RHP Langley 2017
Hosley was named 6A North Region Player of the Year and hit .507 for the season with 12 doubles and only two strikeouts. Hosley also pitched this spring for the Saxons, going 3-1 with a 2.19 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 32 innings of work, walking just five batters.

Dalton Jackson OF Great Bridge 2017 (Navy)
Jackson was named Conference 17 Player of the Year and First Team All-4A East Region. He had a spectacular offensive season, hitting .455 and slugging .922. He had 8 home runs and 12 doubles while driving in 34 runs for the Wildcats.

Evan Justice LHP Collegiate 2017 (North Carolina State)
Justice was named the VISAA Division I Player of the Year taking Collegiate back to the state tournament a two way talent for Collegiate, Justice had a 7-1 record with a 1.05 ERA in 60 innings pitched. Justice had 70 strikeouts on the year. Justice also hit .506 with five homeruns and 40 RBI.

Jack Roberts SS/RHP St. John's College 2017 (Elon)
Roberts was named the 2017 Gatorade Player of the Year for DC and led the Cadets to their fourth straight WCAC Championship this spring. He hit .337 with five home runs and 26 RBIs at the plate. Roberts also contributed on the mound, going 3-0 with four saves and a 0.64 ERA.

Erik Stock SS/RHP Greenbrier Christian 2017 (Old Dominion)
Stock was named First Team All-VISAA Division II. At the plate, he hit .423 with with 15 extra-base hits and 37 RBIs as well as 26 stolen bases. On the mound, he was 2-0 with a 0.28 ERA in 25.1 innings with eight saves. He struck out 42 batters and allowed just 12 hits during the season.

Kyle Whitten RHP Osbourn Park 2017 (Virginia)
Whitten was named Cedar Run Conference 8 Player of the Year and First Team All-6A North Region. On the mound, he went 5-2 with a 1.79 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 47 innings of work, allowing just 23 hits. At the plate, Whitten hit .451 with seven doubles, a home run, and 14 RBIs.
