Western PA Fall Review Analysis: Corner Infielders

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

La Roche College was the host for the Western PA Fall Review. A total of 38 participants from two states dotted the roster for the days proceedings that included two nine-inning games with a showcase in between.  Over the next five days we will review each player in attendance by position. Today we continue our review by taking a look at the corner infielders in attendance.

Seth Baldensperger, 2017, 3B, Warren Area (PA)
5-foot-10, 195-pound right-handed hitter. Started from a square stance with high hands load. Head travels some with hands but a short swing path and strong lower half create some power to the pull side. Registered an 87 mph bat exit velocity. Will need to continue to build arm strength (74 mph) and work to improve 8.01 60-yard dash time moving forward. Solid showing in game action with two hits in three at bats.

Derek Donatelli, 2016, 1B, North Hills (PA)
5-foot-11, 165-pound uncommitted senior. Right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a short lift-and-replace stride. Direct swing path with a line drive approach led to a bat exit velocity of 77 mph. Ran an 8.17 60-yard dash and showcased 74 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Alex Hundiak, 2016, 1B, Pittsburgh Central Catholic (PA)
6-foot, 225-pound uncommitted senior. Starts from a slightly open right-handed stance and utilizes a leg lift stride to initiate his swing from a high hands load. Very strong lower half and direct swing path leads to a bat exit velocity of 90 mph. Went 1-for-3 with a double in game action, including a line out in his second at bat, and took one of the top rounds of batting practice on the day. Moves well around the bag at first base and displayed an accurate 77 mph arm across the diamond.

Josh McKnight, 2017, 1B, Central - Martinsburg (PA)
6-foot-2, 180-pound primary pitcher. Left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates swing with a heel-raise stride. Solid lower half action and quick hands lead to a bat exit velocity of 90 mph. Solid frame and significant barrel whip project for some power potential moving forward. Athletic actions at first base with a strong 85 mph arm across the diamond. Improved footwork will be necessary to handle daily duties defensively at this position.

Trey Weaver, 2017, 1B, Franklin Area (PA)
5-foot-11, 220-pound right-handed hitter. Initiates swing from an open stance with a high hands load and a toe-tap stride. Displayed an 87 mph bat exit velocity and good rhythm to his swing. Went 2-for-6 in game action and showed capable defensive actions around the bag at first base with an accurate 67 mph arm across the diamond.
