LAKELAND, FL—The second day of the Florida Diamond Club Showcase featured pregame workouts again and two games, with the North and East playing for the first time. Both games lasted 10 innings with the East taking on the South and the West taking on the North. The PBR Florida staff will have complete reports following the event. In the meantime, here are some highlights from Saturday…

+ IF Colby Halter (Bishop Kenny HS, FL) is fresh off a silver medal run with Team USA and hasn’t stopped hitting. The Florida recruit was 3-for-4 with a triple and double. The triple came in his first at-bat when he went with a changeup away and drove it to the left field corner. He then hooked an inside pitch for a double to right field before collecting an infield single back up the middle.

+ OF Dylan Crews (Lake Mary HS, FL) didn’t have much in the stat sheet, going 0-for-4 with a strikeout and walk, but when he put the ball in play, it was loud contact. His BP round was par for the course for him, featuring a short, simple stroke and hard line drives to the middle of the field.

+ OF Brandon Fields (Dr. Phillips HS, FL) is built like a running back with a powerful lower half and tremendous strength throughout his frame. He has swing-and-miss tendencies at the plate, but when he connects, the ball can jump. He had a sacrifice fly and squared up a triple off the wall and left-center field.

+ C McGwire Holbrook (Bishop Moore HS, FL) has a strong frame and absolutely punished baseballs in BP with a simple, direct path. After a couple walks, he ripped a single through the left side with his balanced stroke. He also looked good on defense in pregame, making strong throws with carry and accuracy.

+ C Carlos Perez (Florida Christian HS, FL) is listed as a switch-hitter and took cuts from both sides in BP, but he has hit exclusively right-handed in games. He has above average bat speed and a smooth stroke from the side. He is a good receiver behind the plate, blocks well and has average to above average arm strength. He threw a runner out at second with a 2.0 pop time on Saturday.

+ C Jackson Miller (JW Mitchell HS, FL) walked and struck out twice to start his day, but bounced back with two hard hits. He squared up a good curveball for an RBI single to left-center field and then found the gap again with a two-run double.

+ 3B Brock Wilken (Bloomingdale HS, FL) has a big, strong frame and it shows up at the plate. He hit two balls hard, including a single to right center.

+ RHP Shawn Guilliams (Villages Charter School, FL) tossed two innings, allowing a run on a single and a couple walks, but he stood out for his above average breaking ball. It was 79-80 mph with downer bite and has the chance to be a swing-and-miss offering. His fastball was 88-91.
