Day One Notes: Trustmark Park

Pearl, MS -  On Tuesday the Prep Baseball Report staff had the chance to watch the first day of championship games hosted at Trustmark Park. Included in today’s Mississippi Scout Blog are notes on several players we caught in action yesterday.

Joe Gray, OF, Hattiesburg, 2018
Mississippi signee. Long-limbed, projectable athletic frame. Moved well in center field as he covered the gaps with long easy strides. Displayed premium arm strength with carry and accuracy on throws during pre-game workouts. The right-handed hitter displayed a more patient approach and middle of the field path taking selective swings on pitches in the zone. The barrel got in the zone quickly with loose, quick hands as they worked uphill through the finish. Set the tone for his team with a hard hit single through the six hole on a 90 mph fastball in his first at-bat, finished the night 2-for-4 scoring three runs and drawing one walk.

Dexter Jordan, UTL, Hattiesburg, 2018
Louisiana-Lafayette signee. The right-handed hitter starts from an even balanced stance with loose rhythm and strength in wrist. Went 2-for-3 with two RBI, including a double that was blasted off the left-center field wall. Barrels seemed to stay on a flat path for a long time in the zone with an aggressive approach to pitches in the zone he is looking for. Jordan also entered the game in the seventh with the tying run at the plate and recorded the strikeout.
