Going Yard Academy Scout Day: Quick Hits
October 27, 2023
On Sunday, October 22nd, the PBR Canada staff hosted it's second event of the weekend in Saskatchewan, joining forces with Going Yard Academy for a Scout Day at the Gordie Howe Sports Complex in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. This event featured roughly 50 players from the Goats organization in the 2024 - 2028 classes and allowed our staff an opportunity to get an in-depth look at the players, as well as collect updated metrics via our tech partner TrackMan.
Earlier this week we began our post-event coverage with the top metrics collected at the event within our Statistical Analysis article. Today, we will conclude our post-event coverage within this Quick Hits article as we break down six standouts from the showcase with scouting notes and video one each.

Trentin Kooy OF / RHP / Marion Graham Collegiate, SK / 2026The 2026 two-way continues to show us why he is one of the better 2026 on the West Coast of the country. It started on the mound where he sat 80-81 mph with the fastball, and spun a tight slider at 67-69 mph that had plenty of horizontal break to it. At the dish, he consistently worked back up middle with a line drive approach reaching a max EV of 89.5 mph. He also ran the 2nd best 60-yard dash at 7.01, and had the 2nd best OF velocity at 85 mph. Kooy is a 2026 to follow as he enters an important off-season of development.

Lukas Kaufmann LHP / 1B / Martin Academy, SK / 2025This was the first time our staff saw Kaufmann on the mound, and the 6-foot, 187 pound 2-way impressed. The fastball at 81-83 mph with an athletic look, and a short quick arm out of ¾ slot. The curveball has plenty of movement, -7.0 inches of IVB and 17.2 of HB, and spun it at 2100+ rpms. Mixed in a changeup as well at 74-75 mph. At the plate, Kaufmann put up a consistent round staying back up the middle and reaching a max EV of 85.5 mph. An intriguing 2025 in Saskatchewan will only get better after an offseason of development.

Dallen Rude RHP / 2B / Muenster School, SK / 2024The unsigned senior had one of the better bullpens at the scout day. Has a long, loose arm and creates deception out of a low ¾ slot. Reached 84.3 mph with the fastball, sitting 81-83 mph. Has the ability to spin the curveball at 2400+ and uses that spin effectively (86% spin efficiency) to create lots of movement, -9.4 inches of IVB and -14.3 inches of HB. His most effective offering, however, is his changeup. Out of a similar release point, he creates 13.4 inches of HB and a very impressive -2.5 inches of IVB that differs greatly from the fastball adding the deception he creates with his arm slot. Rude showed us that he is one of the top uncommitted seniors in Saskatchewan.
|
Joel Davidson RHP / OF / Centennial Collegiate, SK / 2024Another uncommitted senior that showed well at the scout day was 6-foot, 170 pound Davidson. A loose arm in the back with projection. The fastball sat 83-84 mph, spun it at 2300+ rpms, and showed the ability to locate it for strikes. The slider and changeup both profile as effective secondary offerings. The slider has the potential to create swing & miss when down in the zone at 74-75 mph, and the changeup has some arm side run at 75-77 mph.

Mitchell Rauckman OF / LHP / St. Joseph, SK / 2026The 5-foot-10, 160 pound 2026 was one of the top in his class at the event. Smooth and athletic on the mound with a repeatable delivery, and showed the ability to throw strikes with all 3 of his offerings. The fastball sits 77-79 mph with carry up in the zone, while the changeup has some arm side run (-10.4 inches of HB) at 67-68 mph. Shows the ability to spin the curveball on a horizontal plane at 63-65 mph. At the dish, he elevated to a big part of the field and reached a max exit velocity of 86.2 mph. Rauckman is a 2026 to follow as he enters the offseason.
|
Reid Olfert 3B / RHP / Bishop James Mahoney, SK / 2026Olfert was another 2026 that impressed at the scout day. He had one of the more consistent rounds of BP on the day, finding barrels regularly accumulating a sweet spot % of 72. With one of the smoothest swings at the event, he utilizes a leg lift and quiet hands during his load to elevate the ball back up the middle reaching a max exit velocity of 85.8 mph. On the mound, the fastball sits 77-79 mph, and has two breaking balls with unique profiles. The changeup plays well off the fastball with plenty of arm side run at 72-75 mph. The 5-foot-11, 160 pound 2-way has plenty of upside and projection and will be an intriguing follow going forward.
