In the first week of the Texas High School Baseball playoffs, there were numerous pitching performances worthy of this award. But as we began to break down the numbers for each outing, the winner, or winners became clear. John Chomko and Justin Ruble, both seniors from Tomball Memorial High School, combined for a 1-hit effort in a two game series sweep of Leander Rouse last week.

Chomko, a Blinn JC commit, allowed only one hit in his outing, a drag bunt in the third inning. He walked two and struck out twelve on 94 pitches in an 8-0 win in game one.

Justin Ruble, a Texas A&M commit, needed only 78 pitches to record a no-hitter in game two, striking out 9 batters, while only allowing one hitter to reach on an HBP. Memorial won that game by a close score of 1-0.

Congratulations to both John and Justin! Good luck in round 2.
