Session II of the Preseason All-State showcase was held on Saturday, February 16 at the Virginia Sports Complex. Over 70 players from around the Commonwealth were in attendance to perform in front of the PBR Scouting staff. Today we highlight some of the players who had standout days in their first time in front of our scouting staff.

Eddie Blake C / RHP / Staunton River, VA / 2020

Blake has a tall athletic frame with a lot of projection left to it. At the plate his bat has some whip and he showed some power with an exit velocity of 89, he has more power that he can access as he adds strength. Showed arm strength behind the plate with a position velocity of 77. On the mound, showed 81-84 with room to add to that as he continues to strengthen. Very interesting, physical two-way prospect to follow.

Caiden Ertter RHP / SS / John Champe, VA / 2022

Ertter has an athletic frame that has a lot of projection left. On the mound, he had a loose arm and was 75-78 on his fastball. Showed good feel for both his breaking ball and changeup and the ability to locate them. At the plate, he was short to the ball with a chance to add batspeed as he adds strength in the coming years. Has a chance to be a good two-way prospect.

Caleb Grizzard LHP / OF / Cosby, VA / 2022

Grizzard has an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left. At the plate, he showed strength and early power with an exit velocity of 88. Arm was up to 82 from the outfield. On the mound is where he really grabbed our attention. His fastball was 76-79, touching 80, his arm action is clean and the arm works, easier effort. Showed feel for spinning his breaking ball. Has a chance to be a high level prospect on the mound and good a two-way prospect.

Kyle Haines RHP / OF / Midlothian, VA / 2021

Haines is 6-2 with a lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He did not pitch at the Preseason All-State, and we look forward to seeing that at some point, but he did show a lot as an outfielder. Showed arm strength at 84 as well as footspeed and athleticism. At the plate, his bat has some whip and quickness and he has a chance to translate that into power as he adds strength in the coming years.

Connor Kolarov RHP / OF / Freedom (South Riding), VA / 2021

Kolarov is 6-4 with a lanky frame that has a lot of projection and room to add strength. He might've been the most exciting pitching prospect that we saw at either All-State event. He has a quick clean arm action, sat 82-83 and touched 85 with easy effort. Frame and arm action suggest that he has a lot more velocity potential in the tank. He also showed a very good swing-and-miss breaking ball that he threw with good velocity at 74-77.

Thomas Latham SS / 3B / Chantilly , VA / 2020

Latham has an athletic frame that still has some projection left to it. Defensively, he was smooth with soft hands and good feet. At the plate, he showed some batspeed and strength as well as some barrel awareness. Works well gap to gap with doubles power and could add some pull power as continues to get stronger.

Johnathan Marquart 1B / 3B / Woodgrove , VA / 2019

Marquart had a head-turning day as an uncommitted senior in his first appearance in front of our staff. He's tall with a lanky frame that has some strength and athleticism to it and plenty of room to add more strength in the weight room. Good footspeed and quickness for a big guy, home to first was 4.09, athleticism could allow him to move to corner outfield to fit into a lineup. Bat is quick with whip and strength at contact. He showed power to both gaps and an exit of 93. Marquart still has plenty of room to add strength and could have true all-field power in the future.

Ethan Ott 1B / 3B / Greenbrier Christian, VA / 2021

Ott has a strong athletic frame and can straight mash. Strong at contact, had the top exit velocity at the event at 97. His batspeed comes easily and his swing has natural loft in it already, generating a lot of backspin and carry. Showed good approach working middle of the field and can drive ball to all fields. Showed arm strength on the infield and was solid on the mound as well.

Caden Plummer OF / RHP / Lee Davis, VA / 2021

Plummer has an athletic frame that still has projection left to it. At the plate, he has an easy simple swing and the ball explodes off of his bat, exit velocity was 89 and he has easy gap to gap power now. As he adds strength and continues to develop there is room for that to continue to increase. Also showed quickness and athleticism as well as an outstanding arm. Ball exploded out of hand, 89 from the outfield with easy effort.

Wyatt Stanley RHP / SS / Patrick Henry (Ashland), VA / 2020

Stanley is 6-2 and incredibly lanky. A ton of room to add strength to his frame as he continues to develop. On the mound, his arm works and he has an easy action, fastball was 80-83 with the ability to see that number jump as he continues to strengthen. Fastball gets tough downward angle and late life to it. He also showed feel and a good breaking ball as well.

Jack Starzyk 1B / 3B / Paul VI, VA / 2022

Starzyk has a lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it as he fills out in the coming years. At the plate, he has some quickness with his hands and a good path to the ball. As he gets stronger that path suggests that he has a chance to add a lot of power and see his overall batspeed increase. He will be very interesting to track in the coming years.

Myles Webb OF / RHP / Granby, VA / 2020

Webb had one of the louder statistical days. He has an athletic frame that still has projection left to it. High level arm from the outfield, ball explodes out of his hand, up to 92 during the event. Showed speed as well, 4.00 on his home to first. At the plate, showed some batspeed and the ability to work the gaps and uses his speed.
