In mid-June, PBR VA/DC hosted the Top Prospect Games East at Old Dominion University. Over 30 players from multiple classes and all corners of Virginia were took part in the event, and we conclude our analysis of those players today with the infielders.

 

 

 

 

Sean Bell OF / RHP / Norfolk Christian , VA / 2022 Bell is 6-1 with a big strong frame. He hits from the right side from an athletic, wide stance, no stride, loads hands up. Hips rotate and he maintains some lower half balance. Stayed inside ball, level line drive swing with strength at contact, showed good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 84. In the infield, gets body behind ball and fields with average hands. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, infield velocity was 65.

 

 

Eli Coley SS / RHP / Norfolk Christian, VA / 2021 Coley is 6-2 with an athletic frame that still has projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an athletic, slightly open stance, strides on line, loads back. Hips rotate and he maintains some lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, level line drive swing, showed a slight pull preference with some extra base pop. In the infield, gets body behind ball and fields with average hands and a wider base. Clean exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, infield velocity was 80.

 

 

Jesus Del Valle SS / 2B / Bishop Ireton , VA / 2021 Del Valle is 6-0 with a lankier athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, loads hands down and slightly back. Hips rotate completely and he maintains very good lower half balance. Stayed inside ball, very short to contact, slightly uphill with good strong contact point and extension through the ball, fast bat. Showed good approach working gap to gap, swing has some natural loft built in, exit velocity was 86. In the infield, quick feet, rounds ball and fields with soft hands and a wider base. Quick hands and a clean exchange, works through the ball. Throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot with a short loose arm action, infield velocity was 80. Ran a 7.12 60 yard dash.

 

 

Drew Early RHP / SS / Gar-Field, VA / 2020 Early is 5-9 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a wide athletic, slightly open stance, strides on line, loads back. Hips rotate with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, shorter swing, level line drive swing, showed a good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 78. In the infield, rounds ball and fields with average hands. Works through the ball to a clean exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, infield velocity was 75.

 

 

William Flanders 1B / OF / Windsor, VA / 2020 Flanders is 6-3 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, strides on line, smooth load back. Hips rotate completely and he maintains good lower half balance. Stayed inside ball, level line drive swing, showed good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 79. In the infield, attacks the ball aggressively and fields with average hands. Works through the ball, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, infield velocity was 63.

 

 

Ethan Hennessy 3B / RHP / Norfolk Academy, VA / 2020 Hennessy is 6-3 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, leg kick stride on line, loads back and wraps. Hips rotate and he maintains some lower half balance. Stayed inside ball, short to the ball, slightly uphill path with some strength at contact, showed good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 93. In the infield, rounds the ball and fields with average hands. Works through the ball, quick clean exchange. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, infield velocity was 81.

 

 

Nicholas Hess RHP / 1B / Colonial Heights, VA / 2021 Hess is 6-2 with a very lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open upright stance, strides on line, loads back into a wrap. Hips rotate completely and he maintains good lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, short swing, slightly uphill line drive swing, showed a slight pull preference, exit velocity was 84. In the infield, gets body behind the ball and fields with a wider base and with above average hands. Clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, infield velocity was 73. Showed versatility taking balls in the outfield, where his velocity was 78. Ran a 7.19 60 yard dash.

 

 

Charlie Knighton SS / RHP / St. Christopher's School, VA / 2023 Knighton is 5-10 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, short stride on line, smooth load back into a wrap. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Short to the ball, slightly uphill path, line drive swing, showed good approach working primarily gap to gap, exit velocity was 75. In the infield, rounds the ball and fields with average hands. Works through the ball, clean exchange. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, infield velocity was 65.

 

 

Spencer Lloyd RHP / 1B / Midlothian, VA / 2023 Lloyd is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, strides on line, smooth load back into a wrap. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, slightly uphill line drive swing, showed a good approach working gap to gap.

 

 

Cameron Mazell 1B / LHP / Clover Hill , VA / 2022 Mazell is 6-3 with a lankier athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a slightly open upright stance, strides on line, smooth load back into a wrap. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, short to the ball, slightly uphill path, strength at contact point, line drive swing with some carry in gaps, showed good approach working primarily gap to gap, exit velocity was 77. In the infield, gets body behind ball and fields with average hands and a wide base. Works through the ball, clean exchange. James McGrady SS / 2B / Greenbrier Christian Academy, VA / 2021 McGrady is 6-0 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. Keeps hands inside, short and quick to the ball, strength at contact point with extension through it, quick bat. Dawson Montagna RHP / 3B / Norfolk Academy, VA / 2022 McGrady is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an upright open stance, strides on line, loads back to a wrap. Hips rotate completely with violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, short and quick to the ball, strength at contact point with extension through it, quick whippy bat. Slightly uphill swing path, line drive swing with some carry in gaps and power potential, showed good approach working primarily gap to gap, natural loft built into his swing, exit velocity was 87. Coleton Payne 2B / OF / Lee-Davis, VA / 2020 Payne is 5-10 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, strides on line, short load back with some wrap. Hips rotate completely with violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, short to the ball, extension through contact. Drew "DJ" Proctor 1B / 3B / First Colonial, VA / 2021 Proctor is 6-0 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced slightly open athletic stance, strides on line, short load back with some wrap. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, short to the ball, strength at contact and extension through it. Slightly uphill swing path, line drive swing with some carry in gaps, showed good approach working primarily gap to gap, exit velocity was 90. Terrence Rhodes SS / RHP / Glen Allen, VA / 2023 Rhodes is 5-6 with a lankier athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. Hips rotate completely with violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, short to the ball, quick bat, strong contact point with extension through contact. Noah Roots 1B / OF / Smithfield, VA / 2020 Roots is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. Switch hitter, from the right side hits from an upright balanced stance, short stride on line, short load back. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, short to the ball, level line drive swing path, showed good approach working primarily gap to gap. From the left side, wider athletic stance, short stride on line, short load back, hips rotate with violence, good lower half balance, short to ball, slightly uphill swing path. Jonathan Wall 3B / 1B / Ocean Lakes, VA / 2020 Wall is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, short stride on line, short smooth load back. Hips rotate with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short to the ball, strength at contact and extension through it. Uphill swing path, line drive swing with some carry in gaps, showed good approach working primarily gap to gap, exit velocity was 86. In the infield, rounds ball and fields with a wider base and above average hands. Works through the ball to a clean exchange.
