On Wednesday, June 20, PBR VA/DC hosted its summer Underclass Games at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg. Over 60 players took the field, representing the Classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022, to showcase their talent in front of PBR staff and the college coaches that were on hand. Today we begin our analysis of the event with a look at the pitchers, check back tomorrow for our look at the hitters from the event.

Tyler Davis LHP Grafton 2020
Davis is 5-11 with an athletic frame and a stronger lower half. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short free arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders uphill and slightly closed, falls off a bit as he finishes. Fastball was 79-81, touching 82, with a bit of late run and some angle to it. Curveball has good armspeed and late hard 1/7 downer break, running 72-73. Slowed arm a bit on his change-up, pitch had fade and was 74-75.

Bryce Dolby 3B/RHP Paul VI Catholic 2022
Dolby is 6-3 with a very lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short free arm action. Lands closed, crossfire delivery, easy effort. Fastball was 76-78, touching 80 with angle and some late run. Curveball was 64-66. A lot of upside will be an interesting prospect to follow.

Clark Driscoll SS/RHP Clover Hill 2022
Driscoll is 5-6 with an athletic frame, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short free arm action that has some quickness to it and normal effort. Lands closed, some crossfire to his delivery. Fastball was 73-75, touching 76 with some late run. Curveball was 61-62 with gradual 11/5 break and some armspeed. Change-up showed fade during warm-ups and some armspeed.

Brock Duff RHP Brookville 2021
Duff is 6-1 with a lankier athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short loose, quick arm and normal effort. Shoulders are closed, lands a bit closed with some fall off in his finish. Fastball was 81-84, touching 85 with late boring action to it and downward plane. Curveball was 70-72 with some armspeed and 11/5 break, pitch has potential to be swing and miss as it sharpens as he develops. Prospect with a lot of upside.

Leighton Dunford RHP/2B Fort Chiswell 2020
Dunford is 5-10 with a strong lower half, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short free arm action, normal effort to his delivery. Slightly closed off at landing with a hard fall off finish. Fastball was 73-75, touching 77, pitch has run and late sink to it. Showed a curveball with 10/4 break and some armspeed that was 65-67.

Connor Furhman SS/RHP Lord Botetourt 2022
Furhman is 5-11 with an athletic frame that still has projection left to it. He throws from low three-quarters arm slot with a short, quick arm action and some effort. Strides out on line and falls off a bit, with some recoil at the end of his delivery. Fastball was 77-79, touching 80, with boring action and late sink. Curveball was 66-68 with gradual 10/4 break and some armspeed, pitch should sharpen as he develops.

Eddie Gimbel OF/RHP Highland School 2020
Gimbel is 6-0 with a lankier athletic frame that still has projection to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with short free arm action and normal effort. Drop and drive delivery, keeps everything on line and finishes in an athletic position. Fastball was 75-77, touching 78, with some downward plane and a bit of late run to it. Curveball was 64-66 with 10/4 break and some shape to it, also thrown with some armspeed. Change-up was 68-69 with good armspeed and a bit of fade to it.

Zian Honaker LHP Salem (Roanoke) 2020
Honaker is 6-1 with a lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short loose arm action that is quick, generates velocity with normal to some effort. Shoulders and hips are closed off as he strides out, crossfire look, lands closed with athletic finish. Fastball was 77-79, touching 81, with some downward plane and a bit of late run. Change-up was 72-73 with good armspeed and some sink. Curveball had some armspeed and sharp 1/7 break, running 65-66. Slider was 71-72 with late 10/4 cut to it. Showed feel for all of his pitches, a lot of upside left to Honaker.

Dylan Jones RHP/OF Manchester 2022
Jones is 5-11 with a lankier athletic frame that still has plenty of projection to it. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a shorter arm action that has some quickness to it, normal effort to his delivery. Body works on line during delivery and he finishes square. Fastball was 76-79, touching 80, with some downward angle and a bit of late run. Curveball has gradual 11/5 break at 67-69 and some armspeed. Change-up was 71-72 with some fade and armspeed.

Garret Kangas RHP Carlisle 2021
Kangas is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hinges to throw from a submarine slot and has a short, loose arm action with some quickness to it. Keeps body on line as he strides out and finishes in an athletic position. Fastball was 73-75, touching 76 with heavy armside run and some sink to it. Slider was 64-65 with late sweep and a bit of depth to it, he threw it with good armspeed. Change-up was 67-68 with heavy fade and very good armspeed. Advanced feel for his pitches as a submariner at this stage in his development.

Ethan Ketron LHP/OF Abingdon 2021
Ketron is 6-2 with a lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short free arm action and normal effort. Strides out on line and lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 70-71, touching 72, with downward plane and some run. Curveball was 60-62 with gradual 1/7 break and some armspeed. Change-up was 64-66 with some armspeed and late sink.

Jaron McNeil OF/RHP Dinwiddie 2021 (Virginia Tech)
McNeil is a recent Virginia Tech commit and is 6-2 with a lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short, lightning quick arm action and normal effort. Shoulders close off and he lands slightly closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 79-82, touching 84, with downward plane and some late run to it. Curveball was 69-71 with good armspeed and hard 10/4 break.

Jason Mendler OF/LHP Flint Hill 2022
Mendler is 5-9 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short free arm action and some effort. Body works on line, lands square with a slight fall off and some recoil. Fastball was 70-72 with downward plane and some boring action to armside. Curveball was 64-65 with sharp 12/6 break and good armspeed.

Brandon Parks LHP/1B Bethel 2020
Parks is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a very short free arm action that is quick, throws with normal effort. Strides out on line, fall off finish. Fastball was 75-77, touching 79, with downward plane and some sink to it. Curveball was 67-68 with some armspeed and 1/7 break.

Luke Payne RHP Heritage Academy (MD) 2020
Payne is 6-2 with a strong lower half. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a long free arm action and normal effort. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands on line with an athletic finish. Fastball was 72-74, touching 76, with downward angle and some late run. Curveball was 64-66 with gradual 11/5 break and some armspeed. Change-up was 66-69 with good armspeed and some run.

AJ Poole RHP/OF McLean 2022
Poole is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action that is quick and some effort to his delivery. Body is on line and square throughout delivery, athletic finish. Fastball was 76-79, touching 80, with downward plane and some late run to it. Curveball was 68-69 with some armspeed and gradual 11/5 break to it, pitch should tighten into a good pitch as he gets stronger and can spin it more.

Justin Rebok RHP Broad Run 2020
Rebok is 6-2 with a lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short, loose arm action that is quick and normal effort to his delivery. Body is on line throughout delivery until fall off finish. Fastball was 78-80, touching 82, with downward angle and a bit of late run. Curveball was 68-70 with hard 11/5 break and good armspeed. Change-up was 70-72 with good armspeed and heavy fade. Feel for all three pitches, plenty left in the tank as he continues to fill out and develop.

Albert Redding RHP Patriot 2020
Redding is 6-5 with a strong frame. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a shorter free arm action and normal effort. Shoulders closed and down initially before landing open with an athletic finish. Fastball was 79-81, touching 82, with good downward plane and some late arm side run and sink to it. Curveball was 71-73 with some armspeed and sharp 11/5 break.
