Mendler is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has strength present and some projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a balanced athletic stance, strides on line, smooth load back. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path, very strong at contact point, showed a primarily pull approach with some power present that way, exit velocity was 88. In the outfield, gets behind ball and fields through it with average hands, clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity was 87. Ran a 7.33 60 yard dash.

Preseason All-State II

Mendler is 5-9 with an athletic frame that has a plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, strides on line, smooth load back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate and he maintains some lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, uphill swing path with some strength at contact and extension through the ball, exit velocity was 86. In the outfield, gets behind the ball and fields through it with above average hands. Clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters slot, velocity was 83.

Preseason All-State II

Mendler is 5-9 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the left side from an athletic stance, short stride on line, smooth load back, good rhythm to setup, hips rotate completely with some violence, some balance during his swing. Short and quick to the ball, keeps hands inside, slightly uphill swing path with a strong contact point and extension through contact, showed good approach working the middle of the field, swing has some natural loft, potential to add more power as he gets stronger and for ball to carry in the gaps, exit velocity was 79. In the outfield, gets body behind ball and fields off to side with average hands. Works through ball, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 77. Ran a 4.40 home to first. On the mound, he throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with long free arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and on line, lands square with a fall off finish. Fastball was 72-74 with downward angle to it. Curveball was 61-65 with gradual 1/7 break and some armspeed, some shape to pitch, chance to be good as it tightens. Change-up was 68-70 with good armspeed.

Underclass Games

Mendler is 5-9 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a balanced athletic stance, strides on line and loads back to a wrap, hips rotate completely with some explosion. Uphill swing path with strength at contact and extension through the ball, showed a pull preference with some power potential that way, exit velocity was 72. In the outfield, gets body behind ball, fields with average hands, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, outfield velocity was 74. On the mound, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short free arm action and some effort. Body works on line, lands square with a slight fall off and some recoil. Fastball was 70-72 with downward plane and some boring action to armside. Curveball was 64-65 with sharp 12/6 break and good armspeed.

1.28.18:  Mendler is 5-8 with an athletic frame, he hits from the left side from a balanced athletic stance. Short stride on line, short smooth load back, good rhythm, quiet simple set up. Good lower half, hips explosive with some balance to swing. Very short path to ball with good extension through it, slightly uphill on the swing path. Line drive swing with some quickness, sets up to have gap power with potential for more to pull side as he develops, exit velocity was 76. In the outfield, gets behind ball and fields it with average hands. Clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, shorter free arm action, outfield velocity was 73. On the mound, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, stabs down into a long arm action that is free. Throws with some effort. Shoulders are uphill and slightly closed, lands closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 66-70 with boring action to the armside. Change-up was thrown with good armspeed at 64-65, had heavy fading action to it. Curveball had late 2/8 break to it, closer to slider action, slowed arm a bit, pitch has potential to have late tight break as it tightens, it ran 59-60.
