The Preseason All State Session II was held on February 16, 2019 at the Virginia Sports complex. over 70 players from around the Commonwealth attended our second session of what ended up being well over 150 total participants at our top event of the winter. We conclude our player analysis from the event with the pitchers.

Vincent DiMauro RHP / 3B / Brentsville, VA / 2020

DiMauro is 6-0 with a strong frame and a strong lower half that has some projection left to it. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot that is just barely above sidearm with short loose arm action that is quick and normal effort. Shoulders are level and closed, lands closed with a slight fall off finish. Fastball was 83-85 with late run to it and a bit of sink as well. Creates an impossible angle from way behind a righthanded hitter. Curveball was 69-71 with sharp 10/4 break and good armspeed. Change-up was 78-80 with good armspeed and heavy fade to it. Showed ability to command ball to both sides of the plate with all three pitches.

Brock Duff RHP / 1B / Brookville, VA / 2021

Duff is 6-2 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with short, quick arm action and some effort. Shoulders are uphill and on line, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 81-85, with downward plane and a bit of late run to it. Curveball was 71-73 with late sharp 10/4 break and good armspeed, swing and miss pitch. Change-up was 74-76 with good armspeed and a bit of late fade. Showed ability to command both sides of the plate with all three pitches.

Caleb Grizzard LHP / OF / Cosby, VA / 2022

Grizzard is 6-0 with an athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with short loose arm action that is very quick, normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and slightly closed, lands on line with a bit of a fall off. Fastball was 76-79, touching 80, with late sink to glove side and also a bit of run when armside. Curveball was 66-68 with sharp 2/8 break and good armspeed. Change-up was 73-75 with good armspeed and heavy sink, almost splitter action with its sharpness. Good three pitch combo, curve and change-up have chance to be swing and miss pitches.

Jack Hardy 3B / RHP / James Monroe, VA / 2020

Hardy is 6-3 with an athletic frame that has strength and projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with longer arm loose action that is quick and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are on line and uphill, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 80-83 with some downward plane and late sink and run to it, two-plane life at the end. Curveball was 70-73 with late sharp 11/5 break and good armspeed. Change-up was 73-76 with good armspeed and sharp heavy fade to it. Mix works well together and he showed ability to throw all three for strikes.

Connor Kolarov RHP / OF / Freedom (South Riding), VA / 2021

Kolarov is 6-4 with a lanky athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot with longer loose arm action that is very quick and whippy, normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are slightly closed and uphill, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball sat 82-83, touching 85, with downward plane and some late run to it. Curveball was 74-77 with sharp power 10/4 break and good armspeed, good shape to pitch, swing and miss right now. Change-up was 71-74 with good armspeed and some fade to it.

Andrew Ramos RHP / OF / Lafayette, VA / 2020

Ramos is 6-2 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with long arm action that is whippy and with some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are slightly uphill and closed, lands closed with a fall off finish. Fastball was 82-85 with downward plane and some late run to it. Curveball was 69-73 with late sharp 12/6 break and good armspeed. Change-up was 77-79 with good armspeed and some late fade to it. Around the strike one with all three pitches.

Baird is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot with short loose arm action that is quick and normal effort. Shoulders on line and level, lands closed and finishes with some recoil and fall off. Fastball was 80-81 with some run and sink when thrown down to armside. Slider was 66-68 with sharp hard 10/4 break and good armspeed.

Eddie Blake C / RHP / Staunton River, VA / 2020

Blake is 6-3 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with long free arm action that is quick and normal effort. Keeps hands married long, shoulders uphill and closed, lands closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 81-84 with some angle and boring action to the armside. Curveball was 73-75 with late 11/5 break and good armspeed. Change-up was 72-74 with good armspeed and fade to it.

Alex Brown LHP / OF / Osbourn, VA / 2021

Brown is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with short loose arm action that is quick and normal effort. Shoulders are level and closed, lands slightly closed with an athletic finish that sometimes has a bit of fall off and recoil. Fastball was 80-82 with sink and a bit of armside run. Curveball was 65-70 with late 2/8 break and good armspeed. Change-up was 73-75 with good armspeed and fade to it. Showed ability to throw all three for strikes.

Jude Cabanban LHP / OF / Cosby, VA / 2020

Cabanban is 5-7 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with short free arm action and some effort. Shoulders are uphill and slightly closed, lands closed with a fall off finish that has some recoil. Fastball was 73-75, touching 77, with downward plane and some late sink. Curveball was 63-66 with gradual 1/7 break. Change-up was 68-71 with good armspeed and sink to it.

Max Ehrhardt 2B / RHP / Patriot, VA / 2022

Ehrhardt is 5-7 with an athletic frame that has projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with short free arm action that is quick and normal effort. Shoulders are level and on line, lands slightly open with an athletic finish. Fastball was 71-74, with downward plane and some cut to it. Curveball was 63-65 with some armspeed and sharp 11/5 break and some shape to it already, has a chance to be a very good pitch. Change-up was 68-70 with good armspeed and some sink to it.

Caiden Ertter RHP / SS / John Champe, VA / 2022

Ertter is 5-8 with an athletic frame that has projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with short loose arm action that is quick and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are closed and slightly uphill, lands closed with a fall off finish. Athletic delivery. Fastball was 75-78, worked up in the zone, got a bit of late life when down. Curveball was 61-64 with sharp 12/6 break and some shape to it. Change-up was 64-66 with good armspeed and heavy fade to it.

Aidan Foley OF / LHP / Western Branch, VA / 2020

Foley is 6-1 with an athletic frame that is strong but still has some projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with shorter loose arm action that is quick and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are on line and uphill, lands on line with an athletic finish. Fastball was 79-83 with some boring action to armside. Curveball was 70-72 with late 1/7 break and good armspeed. Change-up was 77-78 with good armspeed and some late life.

Jacob Golub RHP / 1B / Lafayette , VA / 2020

Golub is 5-10 with a strong frame. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with shorter arm action that is quick and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are slightly closed and uphill, lands open with an athletic finish. Fastball was 75-77 with some downward plane and late cut to it. Curveball was 65-66 with sharp 11/5 break and good armspeed, good shape to pitch and good command of it. Change-up was 72-74 with good armspeed and some late cut.

Nicholas Hess RHP / 1B / Colonial Heights, VA / 2021

Hess is 6-2 with a very lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot with longer free arm action that is quick and easy effort to his delivery. Hunches at waist some, shoulders are closed and level, lands closed, crossfire delivery, fall off finish. Fastball was 75-77, touching 78, with late run to it and some depth as well. Curveball was 65-68 with late sharp hard 11/5 break and good armspeed, good shape to pitch, flashed swing and miss. Change-up was 69-73 with good armspeed and some sink.

Codie Maitland 3B / RHP / Dinwiddie , VA / 2021

Maitland is 5-9 with a strong lower half. He throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot with long free arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are on line and uphill, lands on line, athletic finish. Fastball was 70-75 with some late life to it. Curveball was 63-66 with good armspeed and sharp 12/6 break.

Jaron McNeil-Ward OF / RHP / Dinwiddie , VA / 2021

McNeil-Ward is a Virginia Tech commit and is 6-2 with a very lanky athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with short loose arm action that is very quick and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are on level and online, lands closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 77-81 with some late life to it, cuts when thrown to glove side and runs when thrown to armside. Curveball was 66-70 with good armspeed and hard 11/5 break.

Jason Mendler OF / LHP / Flint Hill, VA / 2022

Mendler is 5-9 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with long free arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and on line, lands square with a fall off finish. Fastball was 72-74 with downward angle to it. Curveball was 61-65 with gradual 1/7 break and some armspeed, some shape to pitch, chance to be good as it tightens. Change-up was 68-70 with good armspeed.

Michael Michallas SS / RHP / Oakton, VA / 2020

Michalas is 5-7 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with long free arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and slightly closed, lands closed with athletic finish. Fastball was 77-80 with late cut to it, almost cutter action. Curveball was 67-70 with sharp 11/5 break and good armspeed. Change-up was 71-74 with good armspeed and hard late fade. Good 3 pitch mix and can throw all for strikes.

Ethan Ott 1B / 3B / Greenbrier Christian, VA / 2021

Ott is 6-2 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with long free arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and on line, lands square with athletic finish. Drop and drive delivery. Fastball was 78-81 with late run to it. Curveball was 68-69 with late sharp 10/4 break and good armspeed, flashes swing and miss. Change-up was 74-75 with good armspeed and some late life.

Carson Peggins 1B / 3B / Lord Botetourt, VA / 2021

Peggins is 6-4 with a strong frame. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a long free arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and on line, lands square with athletic finish. Fastball was 73-75 with boring action to its armside. Curveball was 62-65 with gradual 11/5 break and good armspeed. Change-up was 67-68 with good armspeed and some fade.

Nicolas Rodriguez OF / RHP / Mountain View, VA / 2021

Rodriguez is 5-10 with a strong athletic frame that has projection left to it. He throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot with a short free arm action and effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and on line, lands square with athletic finish. Fastball was 71-74 with some boring action to its armside. Curveball was 63-64 with gradual 11/5 break and good armspeed, break was sharper when down. Change-up was 68-70 with good armspeed and some cut that also has depth.

Wyatt Stanley RHP / SS / Patrick Henry (Ashland), VA / 2020

Stanley is 6-2 with a lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short free arm action that is quick and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and on line, lands square with athletic finish. Fastball was 80-83 with sink and a bit of run to it. Curveball was 68-72 with late sharp 11/5 break and good armspeed. Change-up was 72-74 with some armspeed and heavy late fade. Commands all three pitches well, curveball plays well off of fastball.

Cooper Thomas RHP / OF / Eastern View, VA / 2020

Thomas is 6-3 with a very lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a very low three-quarters arm slot with a short free arm action that is quick and normal effort to his delivery. Hinges at waist, almost down to submarine. Shoulders are on line, lands square with athletic finish and some recoil. Fastball was 74-77 with heavy sink and some run to it. Slider was 57-61 with sharp 10/4 break and some armspeed, does a good job getting hand on top to create some depth. Change-up was 65-68 with good armspeed and some late hard sink to it. Can throw all three for strikes and essentially gets subby movement without dropping all the way down.
