Fluvanna

Classification: VHSL 3A / Region 3B  2022 Record: 12-11 

Fluvanna has a top tier arm at the front of their rotation. JJ Glasscock (WVU) had a stellar year in 2022 and should once again be a dominant force on the mound. They return eight starters in the lineup, including senior catcher B.B. Cox, junior shortstop Ryan Mann, senior Tyler Coleman, and senior Nathan Gragg. Another name to know is sophomore Cam Via, who could provide some run production at the plate and depth on the mound. If the Flucos can figure out how to give Glasscock and Joe Gomez (VCU) some run support, they will have a chance to make a run into late May.

Broadway

 

Classification: VHSL 3A / Region 3C  2022 Record: 14-7

Key Losses: Noah Hertzler (William & Mary)

Broadway lost in the first round to a strong, senior heavy Rustburg team. Broadway brings back some offense from their 2022 team, led by recent WVU commit, Josiah “Sy” Crider. Crider was in the middle of the order as a freshman and that should be no different in 2023. If the Gobblers can return a healthy Bransen Hensley (WVU), then it could be a potent offense to deal with. The main question that will need to be answered is, who is going to fill the big innings for Broadway this spring?

Spotswood

 

 

Classification: VHSL 3A / Region 3C   2022 Record: 21-3

Key Losses: Noah Burtner (Bluefield), Luke Keister (Shenandoah)

Spotswood is coming off of a twenty-one win season and a trip to the state tournament. Their final two losses came to the hands of the 3A state title game teams, Liberty Christian and Abingdon. Spotswood will need to replace a lot of talent that graduated last year, but they do return their frontline arm, Ben Moyer (Samford). Moyer will possibly get some help from sophomore Carter Lenz on the mound. Lenz has some intriguing stuff for a young arm. Can they produce enough offense to handle some of the better teams in their region and the state?

Liberty Christian

 

Classification: VHSL 3A / Region 3C    2022 Record: 23-2 (3A State Champions)

Key Losses: Logan Duff (Randolph-Macon), Tanner Thomas (Longwood), Andrew Burns (Liberty), John Simmons (Liberty), Dillon Stowers

Key Addition: Boston Torres (Cedarsville)

The LCA Bulldogs dominated in 2022 on their way to a 3A State Championship. Liberty Christian amassed a 23-2 record and defeated a strong Abingdon Falcons team for their state title. They lost a lot of hits and runs off of the 2022 team and may have a tough time replacing the offensive production. However, if the offense can scratch a few out, the arms may be able to carry the weight. With one of the best rotations in the state, the Bulldogs bring back Benjamin Blair (Liberty), Lane Duff (JMU), and Will Palmer (Campbell) to create a tough matchup for any opposing lineup. Expected returner John Simmons departed for Liberty a year early and they will feel his loss on offense, but the addition of Boston Torres will give them a consistent offensive threat.
