Southern Wisconsin Open: Outfielder Analysis
November 24, 2020
On Oct. 17, the PBR Wisconsin crew traveled to STiKS Academy in Waukesha for its annual Southern Wisconsin Open event. This event was open to all high school classes and gave our staff one last chance to see these prospects in attendance prior to the start of the offseason. We published instant insight in the days following this event in the form of our Quick Hits and Statistical Analysis posts, and we began our position-by-position analysis this week, starting with the catchers. We’re onto the outfielders today.
At the top of the list below is uncommitted junior Dylan Mass (Franklin, 2022). Mass has some twitch to his left-handed swing, which helps mold a top-of-the-order profile offensively. His above-average speed and athleticism create a sound defensive skillset, too, leveraging Mass into a place as an interesting, on-the-market member of the state’s 2022 class.
Similarly, Logan Libby (Waukesha North) also projects best atop a lineup. He and Mass ran the top two 60-yard dash times at this showcase, and Libby just edged out Mass for the top spot (6.76). Libby has some natural strength in his right-handed bat and showed that he can spray contact well to all fields.
There were also a few freshmen to show well here, led by Hartford Union’s R.J. Thomae (2024). Thomae has a projectable 5-foot-10 build, with room to tack on significant strength, though he’s already able to generate some loud contact for his size and age. He moves around the outfield fluidly and is another above-average runner to note within this group.
For full scouting reports on each of the day’s outfielders, continue on below.
