WV Top Prospect Games: Previewing the Middle Infielders

As we approach the 2015 WV Top Prospect Games we will take a look at players by position highlighting some of the top prospects on the roster. Today we continue our preview by taking a look at the 15 middle infielders currently scheduled to participate. This number will still grow by one as their is still one roster spot to be filled by a middle infielder.

George Washington High School shortstop Josh Petit, currently ranked No. 1 in the WV Class of 2017, heads the list of 12 West Virginia middle infielders in the group. Another prospect that should draw the attention of college coaches in attendance is 2019 SS/RHP Grant Wells. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound two-way prospect has advanced abilities for a player his age and could combine with Petit to give George Washington one of the top double play combinations in the state next spring.

Pennsylvania will be well represented by three middle infielders that stood out recently at the Western PA College Prospect Showcase. Zach Jacobelli (Penn-Trafford) is ranked No. 129 in the PA Class of 2016 and flashed a 90 mph bat exit velocity at the event. 2016 2B/SS Brady Minetti ran a 6.85 60-yard dash and showed a fluid left-handed swing earning a spot in the PA Class of 2016 rankings at No. 144. 2017 RHP/SS Cory Storm is not currently ranked in Pennsylvania, but will be when the next update takes place in early August. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound two-way prospect topped at 86 mph from the mound and displayed two-way abilities as a middle infielder that will vault him into the rankings.
