at Cardinal Newman - Oregon signee; 6-foot-1, 170-pounds. Last we saw Berger he threw a no-hitter last spring. He’s not a big ‘stuff’ guy (T85 today) but there is a little more in there as he gets into the season and warmer weather. With him it’s about a delivery he owns and feel of three pitches. The fastball has movement and he’s got control to both sides. His breaking ball is a late slider that isn’t a power pitch but it’s tight and bites well. He went one inning today and looked good as he gears up for what MC hopes is a deep playoff run later this season.
3/16/18
vs Branson School - Oregon commit, the 6-foot-0'ish 175-pound right-hander with pitchability and feel. On the day of this report he threw a no-hitter, with 8 K, BB, HBP. He commanded the fastball on the glove side all day and mixed in his slider at will. Both pitches come out of the same slot. High-3/4 slot. Good delivery, good body control, good direction, quiet head, long easy arm action on backside, loose easy arm. Showed feel of change but really didn't need it. Slider not hard but good spin, audible hissing as it approached hitter. Fastball was 82-86, has some arm side run and looked capable of doing more with the movement if he wanted, settled in at 83-84 in mid-innings, slider was 72-74. Pitch-maker.
