Game Performance

Notes

Comments

7/17/25
Oregon State recruit. At 6-foot-3, 215-pounds with a barrel-chested frame with defined strength throughout, Bowen holds a pro-ready frame with tantalizing tools. His right-handed stroke displays elite bat speed, and the exit velocities were heard throughout the park during batting practice as his rounds sounded different as balls screamed off the barrel with ease. He tracks gracefully in the outfield with acute attention to detail and a plus-arm. There was some steepness to the path with the barrel exiting the zone quickly throughout game play as he faced some tough arms with some whiffs throughout. Regardless, the impact of his five-tool potential is too much to walk away from, and should the bat-to-ball ability show itself more on the summer circuit (and in the Trinity League next spring), Bowen has as high of a ceiling as any prospect in the class.

6/02/24

Blake Bowen, JSERRA CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL (CA), 2026 Oregon State
Positional Profile: OF Power/speed combination potential player with dynamic upside
Body: 6-1, 204-pounds. Physicality in frame with present strength
Hit: RHH. Taller stance with minimal hip hinge while setting his hands above his head just above rear shoulder with a high back elbow and looseness in his hands. Hands drop into the launch position just behind his rear shoulder while taking a stride forward in the load. Gets to launch position consistently on time. Lower 1/2 and hands are explosive with bat speed that he gets to easily with consistent feel for making hard contact. Works to catch the ball out front with lift in his bat path that plays to his middle/pull side approach with impact.
Power: 106 max exit velocity, averaged 88.7 mph. 391' max distance. Explosive raw power with pull side and middle of the field HR power presently while consistently getting the ball in the air. There is some polish still necessary to get to it consistently, but the impact is real.
Arm: RH. OF-94 mph. Arm stroke is clean with some length in the back which plays to his OF future. Ball comes out of the hand low with carry to the throw which allows him to throw online with accuracy to bases both in the air and on one hop.
Defense: Easy mover who shows body control with present footwork and understanding of angles in the OF. Corner OF profile with RF upside.
ATH: 6.60 runner in the 60. 1.67 and 3.75 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. Quickness off the line with body control and explosiveness throughout 30.90 max vertical.
