3/6/20: A JC transfer from Palomar College (CA), Olthoff made an immediate impact as the Friday night starter for the Green Wave and created a lot of scouting buzz in the process. His fastball lives in the 89-92 range (T94) with some sink and angle. He also throws an 11/5 curveball with good command at 77-79 mph. His slider is a swing/miss pitch with really good depth, tunneling well off of his fastball at 81-82 mph. His fourth pitch is a sinking changeup at 80-83. He throws all four pitches to both left and right handed hitters with a chase rate that is off the charts. He’s able to throw a strike on command with pretty much anything, but lives outside of the zone as the game goes on because he creates so much chase. Olthoff finished the 2020 season 4-0, 0.32 ERA, 28 IP, 12 H, 3 BB, 47 SO, .128 OPPAVG.

11/10/19: 6-foot-4, 210-pound frame. Average athlete with a solid, on-line delivery with tempo and medium effort. Medium arm circle into a high- slot, fairly clean with quality arm speed. Worked 90-93 mph showing arm-side run on 2-seamer, with strong finish in the zone, got swing-and-misses and off-side foul balls. Flashed above average command with occasional misses down and to glove side. Showed a slider at 78-80 mph with quality depth. True 3-pitch arsenal with an above average changeup with late dive at 80-81 mph. (Sofio)
