SoCal ProCase:

Body: Five-foot-11, 185-pounds. Long, lean, and wiry strength throughout the frame with significant lower half strength you’d expect from a catcher.

Hit: Shows the ability to get and keep the barrel on plane through the swing into through to extension. Flashes pull side power presently with the ability to go the other way with line drives. His impact position ranks amongst the highest scores registered by Blast Motion which allows him to make adjustments to pitches more easily, something he showed in-game.

Power: With a max exit speed of 99.90 mph and an average speed of 85.26 mph, Saum possesses the type of projectable power seen in elite college and everyday professional players. Average distance was 232 ft. with a peak of 380 ft.

Arm: Power arm that registered an 80 mph speed from the crouch with pop-times in the 1.91-1.94 range with throws on the bag. Throws flash carry with some run to the first base side of the bag.

Run: Clocked a 7.46 sixty yard dash time on a grass surface.

7/17/19

Saum has an athletic, durable build at 5-foot-11, 175-pounds. The Stanford commit showed why he’s so highly regarded as a prospect nationally with his easy all-fields power from the right side. Saum hammered balls to the gaps during BP while putting some off the fence to the pull side. Reads spin out of the hand very well and is selective at the plate. Shows excellent plate coverage too. He’s an athletic catcher with excellent flexibility and lateral movements behind the plate. Arm strength is above average (1.94-2.01, 79 mph) with throws on the bag. Proved to be a smart pitch caller by mixing speeds and locations in his calls.

7/13/18

Saum was a known name after his big freshman season and he backed it up today. Shows flexibility and athleticism behind the plate where he popped in the 2.03-2.11 range with throws that were on the bag and on a rope. His batting practice rounds produced a few loud shots showing his feel for the barrel and fast hands. A highly projectable prospect, Saum will be a fun player to follow.
