I have seen Johnson three times over the past two months and he has gotten a bit unlucky with QABS that end in outs or just missing the barrel. He has intrigued me with his play and it finally showed off against Mitty as he had 4 hits including two extra base hits. Johnson batted out of the two spot and got it going immediately roping a 2B towards LCF. He worked the count well looking for a pitch to drive, finding barrel on a pitch at the knees. That theme continued throughout the game as he put solid swings and found barrel on mistake pitches on both the inner and outer half. Looking at his offensive profile, he is a hitter with minimal swing and miss in his game. His swing doesn’t generate the most lift, but he lets his hands work on top of the baseball, leaning a more contact heavy profile. Using a small stride with his upper body slightly wrapping over the plate, he relies on his quick hands staying inside the baseball to get the barrel out in front. At the point of contact he does a great job staying behind his front side as his lower half is stable, especially through his finish. Overall Johnson has some solid tools at the dish, and once he gets it going he is a tough consistent hitter.
6/06/21

Bay Area World Series Underclass (6/4/21-6/6/21)

Offensive notes: Even stance, lower hands with attacking rhythm and posture. Stays tight to the frame with compact swing showing quick bat that stays behind well. Middle of the field approach and line drive swing. Swing carried over to games where he was in an attacking position consistently and looking for FB to drive. 60-yard - 7.11 / EV mph - 80

Defensive notes: Smooth through the baseball knowing when to take an extra step to make sure he's on time. Arm has depth out of glove with fluid actions and ability to let it loose with accurate throws on the bag. Showed strong range in games with ability to cut balls off. OF mph - 81
