Bay Area World Series 2022 - Uncommitted; Physical and strong, stout build on sturdy frame, showed off a couple of tools that should have him on the radar for schools keeping tabs on a 2023 catcher for their incoming class, the arm is solid and he's accurate, 75 mph top pop throw, times 2.09-2.14, smashed baseballs in the BP round while registering the top EV at 100.9 mph, has good hand speed (up to 23 mph at previous PBR event), 384' max estimated distance, 33% hard hit % (balls hit over 90 mph), 22% sweet spot %, heavy fly ball approach and it suits his power, performed well in game plat in 7 plate appearances w/no strikeouts (2-for-6, 3B, 1B, BB, +F7), there is some edge and intensity to how he approached the entire weekend.
Positional Profile: C/3B
Physical: 6-1, 200-pounds; Broad shouldered, sturdy build. 8.03 runner in the 60.
Offensively: RHH. Open setup, with feet shoulder width apart; relaxed to upright bat position. Short take back with the hands with a gliding stride for timing. Drifts into contact while showing an aggressive lower half. Showed a direct swing path with two handed finish. More line drives than flyballs and groundballs with a peak exit velocity of 97 MPH via Trackman. Compact with access to strength and power, consistently high EV readings over 90 mph, strong barrel awareness, powerful stroke.
Defensively: Starts with a balanced setup; utilizing a one knee approach while staying low during receiving. Hands soft and strong while standing up slightly early during transfer. Moderate arm circle from a standard 3/4 arm slot. 2.07-2.14 pop times. C - 77 MPH. Bit of a high set-up to get off the pops with squared feet, showed agility in multiple one knee set-ups while working cleanly below the ball, strong arm with some tailing action on throws.
