at Rancho Cotate HS - Uncommitted; Athletic body at 5-foot-11, 175-pounds. Built like a MIF (which he is when not pitching). Real quick arm, high knee lift, maintains good body control while still being athletic and fluid with the delivery. Gets pretty close to overhand slot with very slight cross body stride. Gathers lower body power before getting to a very stable stride leg and backside finish. Lower body mechanics somewhat reminiscent of Craig Kimbrel. As good as the athleticism and body control are, he can develop a better (further) release point and add life to the fastball through the zone. Fastball was steady 85-87 (T88) with some dips lower in counts that were 'get a strike' counts. There are hints of riding life and also showed he can create angle to the glove side. PLENTY more velocity coming as he evolves into a pitcher vs a HS thrower. Curveball has a chance to play as above average at the college level. Big and biting with depth, 11/6 shape and from 73-74 mph, and also a hard slider at 77 mph that looks to be a future out-pitch. The athleticism also played in his ability to execute pick-off moves and field his position. Got a shot to rise up the 2021 ranks in Northern CA. Very interesting talent.
