3/10/20

at De La Salle - Uncommitted; Sturdy 6-foot-1 190-pounds, high-3/4 slot, calm depth on backside, good arm speed, there is some effort in the arm stroke and momentum starts to work back up the mound as he finishes. Shinn appears to be a highly competitive pitcher as he rose to the challenge of being opposite the nation's top HS LHP (Kyle Harrison) and facing a good line-up he kept his team in the game. Went 4+ IP, 3 K, 2 ER, 3 BB, 13 first pitch strikes. Fastball steady at 86-87 and got 88 pretty regularly when he wanted it. Slurvy slider 75-77 mph, occasionally pulls the fastball to the glove side.

5/05/19

vs Santa Cruz - Shinn looked good in the game keeping hitters off balance going 6 innings and striking out 8 with 4 singles and one hit-by-pitch. The lefty is a large frame with high waist and length in his legs. It’s the type of frame that is projectable and can continue to gain strength. His delivery starts with the hands at his waist lifting on his high front knee and allowing the arm to have some length out of the glove. Shinn works from a mid-slot that is slingy and deceptive with the arm staying behind his body. The FB was 84-85 T87 MPH early in the game and working 78-82 MPH from the 4th-6th innings. He spotted to his arm side missing off the plate there early and having life up through the top of the zone and generating swings and misses. His SLD showed short lateral sweep and got swing and miss with its 2-to-7 and 2-to-8 shape, working 68-72 MPH early and 66-68 MPH later in the outing. He also mixed in an arm side sinking CHG at 71-73 MPH. Shinn showed moxie on the mound pitching out of a 2nd and 3rd situation in the 1st and a bases loaded situation in the 6th and is going to be a follow for the 2020 class.
