7/20/21

Cape Cod- As a true freshman in 2020 Lampe attended Santa Rosa JC (Calif.) where he batted .424 with 17 SBs in 20 games. He then transferred to ASU and slashed .294/.383/.461 this past spring. The right handed batter has continued to hit for a solid average in the Cape (.264), but has not shown as much power with the wood stick. He has amassed only two XBH in 130 plate appearances. With above average speed (4.16 H-1B), he's a prototypical lead off hitter. During my look, he took a late stride and as a result rushed his swing and pulled off the ball, limiting his ability to drive it. However, he excels at getting on base by working counts and showed solid command of the strike zone, laying off pitches outside of the zone (21 BB vs 22 SO this summer). Defensively, he showed an above average glove with better than average range and sound instincts in the big field. He also showed below average arm strength. Tools and projection-wise, he reminds me of former Michigan Wolverine center fielder and 2013 Mets 9th rounder, Patrick Biondi.

4/23/19

V Bishop O Dowd - UC Davis Commit. Medium, athletic build with high waist and very quick feet; lean build still has some space for added strength. Balanced stance with slight bend in the knees keeping hands at back shoulder with high back elbow. Toe tap with hands having some bounce in load before quick barrel arc around back arm. Extended stride showing full body swings over a stiff front leg; hands stay tight to the body and connected with his body turns. Bat stays in the zone for a long time before high finish over front shoulder; showed the ability to adjust his body to stay on pitches and drive to every part of the field. Picked up two hits barreling the ball back through the middle and deep into RCF for a 3B. Aggressive runner with above-average speed out of the box using his quick feet to create good angles (4.46T on 3B). Defensively showed range across the bag and into the hole keeping a low center of gravity as he moves through the ball; plays on the move and ability to come get the ball. Arm is solid and loose with good hand-speed through finish. Liked his bat-speed and aggressive swing and playing style.

10/20/18 - Scrimmage vs Cardinal Newman HS - UC Davis commit, body looks good, strong and athletic, continues to show good speed on the bases. Defensively would like to see him play more athletically and through the ball as he seemed flat-footed and caught in-between while throwing flat footed and taking away his good arm strength. Offensive approach was inconsistent given the situations he was in at the plate.

3/26/18 at Boras Classic - same player seen before, stands out due to body type and some twitchiness, energy is easy to see, get the feel that he loves being out there, wants to make plays and can do a bit better job of letting the game come to him, was forcing some offense as opposed to working the counts better and using his speed, need to keep the swing plane a bit flatter to say out of the air. Saw good agility (and leaping ability) once again on defense, excellent hands on short hops. A couple of double clutches indicated rushing a bit and need to calm the footwork just a tad.

2/10/17 - Lean and athletic 5-foot-11 155-pound middle infielder with a lot of bounciness and life in his actions, sure-handed fielder with light feet, quick short arm action, throws leave his hand easy and track across the diamond while staying on-line, calm around the bag on the double play turn.  Offensively he's got good timing and stays flat with a good top hand, there is some present day pull-side gap power, runs bases with good awareness and attention, good B.I.D. advance, energetic kid in the dugout, seems to have some natural leadership qualities.
