2/22/20

vs De La Salle - Kansas commit; UTL (1B/C/OF/P) was all over the field on Saturday. The Kansas commit was impressive on the mound with his ability to locate the fastball (83-84) and high usage of a quality slider (73-74). The fastball velocity doesn't jump off the page but the life through the zone was good. Defensively he seems likely to roam around for the Warriors this spring but it was behind the plate, late in the scrimmage, where he frankly looked the best. It would appear there is a need for VC to find a quality catcher on this squad and he's the best candidate to fill that spot. His blocking was quite good, with agility to block and steer BIDs back to the field side. He received well and showed leadership qualities and a take charge presence that stood out. Offensively he's a grind it out, quality at-bat type of hitter, the type who will drive in runs and do what needs to be done approach.

1/25/20

NorCal Preseason All-State: Cymrot has had two big years in one of the toughest leagues in NorCal (West Catholic) and continues to make progress with the bat. He’s trimmed up the body more over the offseason and the strength in the frame shows up in the swing. Staying balanced and postured with a slight foot lift, the late barrel speed finishes upwards and that made the linedrives jump through the fog into both gaps (94 EV); when he finds his pitch he’s able to turn on it and hit it out as well. Normally at 1st or on the mound, Cymrot showed some versatility taking defense in RF and using his arm strength from a compact swing (85 OF) keeping throws firm and online to each of the bags and flashing the ability to fit a corner spot when needed. Looks ready to be a lock in the middle of a deep Valley Christian lineup.

2/21/19

2/21-23/19 3 Games - Cymrot was the guy in the middle of the lineup that got things done for the Warriors all weekend. He came up clutch in Game 2 against Carroll with multiple big knocks driving in 3 on a 2B over the LF head to start their offense and then driving in the tying run in the bottom of the 7th to keep the Warriors going. He’s a strong, medium frame with width in the shoulders and has done a good job of losing some of the baby weight as he looks to be firming up especially in the lower half. At the plate he stands open with even hands and a high back elbow, keeping the hands quiet with his controlled front leg lift. The bat is quick working on a level path with feel for the barrel to both sides of the field. There’s times where he gets more aggressive letting the bat do some damage like the 2B against Carroll, and I liked that mentality especially when runners were on base. At 1st base he’s got average range and moves fine for the position with plenty of arm to make the throws he needs to make. On the hill that arm strength shows up where he was able to move the FB and work in two breaking balls for success. Cymrot shows easy effort in the arm and was clean into a 3/4 release. The FB was 82-84 T85 with angle to the glove side and times where there’s natural cut that way as well keeping the pitch off barrels. His SLD was the best off-speed pitch he threw having feel for the pitch and using it to the glove side. There were times he went to it extensively, doubling and tripling it up on hitters and making the FB play up. It showed flashes of tilt and missed bats at 76-79 MPH. The CB (68-71 MPH) got a bit slurvy during the outing, but when it’s good flashed depth with late bite. My only concern on the hill was the amount of pitches he threw early in the game, having times where the control would disappear before adjusting and making a quality pitch to get an out. If he can continue to firm up the front side on the hill and limit the extra pitches, watch for Cymrot to be the ace of the Warriors and have games where he can dominate on the mound and with the bat.

2/16/19

2/16/19 vs De La Salle - Arizona commit and #27 in the 21 class went two innings giving up one run while striking out one and walking one. Cymrot is a medium frame with rounded shoulders and strength in his lower half, looking like he trimmed up his frame during the offseason. The arm showed easy effort having a clean swing with a ¾ release. During the outing he worked with the FB early before runners got into scoring position, switching up the sequence and pitching backwards to the heart of De La Salle’s order. The FB was 82-84 MPH working up in the zone with flashes of angle down in the zone. He also mixed in three offspeed pitches including a CB, CHG, and SLD. The CB (66-70 MPH) was his most consistent offspeed pitch showing 12/6 shape and late depth. The pitch showed feel through the zone with the ability to throw it in multiple counts go back-to-back with it. The CHG (70-73 MPH) had bottom to the glove-side and was used for his punchout. The SLD (76-79 MPH) looked like a FB with short cut at the end, flashing times of angle on the pitch and having spots of feel with it. Cymrot will also get AB’s for the Warriors looking like a guy who can be a strong-two way player.
