Cape Cod: Showed some of the best raw power on the Cape, launching five home runs and producing a .185-ISO rate over his 27 games with the Firebirds. A strong, broad, corner stick who feasts on fast balls, Sim’s upside is limited some by his struggles squaring-up secondaries in the zone (though he generally identifies spin well enough to avoid regularly chasing), leading to inflated strikeout rates. He’s capable at third base and at present looks the part of a day two dev play with good power upside

2020 Torrey Pines (San Diego) 3B/RHP, 6-foot 190 pounds, R/R. Flashed plus-defense at third, diving to his right en route to stopping would be doubles and turning them into outs. End of the season slump continued as he went 0-2 and lowered his average to 271 on the year. Relieved Schlesner for one out and touched 89 mph on the mound. Will be a name to watch in the San Diego Section ahead of the 2020 MLB Draft.

3B/RHP Kevin Sim is listed at 6-foot 180 pounds and committed to the University of San Diego. Strong muscular build with a powerful lower half and broad shoulders. Through 13 games is hitting 351 with 14 RBI 6 XBH (3 HR) and a 1.144 OPS. Went 2-8 with 2 walks in the three game series against La Costa Canyon. Swing looks consistent as he has maintained his power load and low hand setup. Swing path iss straight to the ball with good barrel approach through the zone and towards the point of contact with lift towards the end to create launch angle. At times his front foot timing was late and evident by a number of foul balls and swings and misses on mistake pitches in the zone. Looked to attack pitches inside and was hesitant towards the outside pitch. Follow through continues to impress and shows his present strength and power.

Sim made his first pitching appearance of the season, working 2.1 INN allowing just one baserunner in the form of a walk and striking out one. Displayed good balance and repeatability pitch to pitch. Predominantly threw a 4-seam fastball that ranged from 82-86 mph and topped at 88 mph. Fastball showed some carry through the zone from an over the top release point. Directionally landed inline with home plate allowing for a consistent release point and the ability to throw quality strikes. Hips showed some tightness holding back lower half pliability and the ability to whip the lower and upper half towards release. Countered his fastball with a 12/6 curveball that ranged from 69-74 mph that showed downward break and potential for swing and miss capability. Arm strength is evident when playing third and translates on the mound, serviceable relief pitcher who has some feel for pitching.

Sim had one of the best rounds of batting practice that ended with a home run about halfway up the net in left field. Starting from a power load with hands just above his waist, Sim gets the barrel in the hitting zone on a slightly uppercut path and uses his strength to drive balls to all fields. The 23rd ranked player in his class, Sim was a line drive machine during his two rounds of batting practice. Sim also showed nimble footwork and a strong arm during the defensive portion of the workout. The University of San Diego commit pitched as well touching 86 with his fastball.
