PBR CA STATE GAMES - Large and long frame with width in shoulders and strength in frame; fits corner profile for next level and flashed two-way skills. At the dish showed even hands from balanced, wider stance taking his hands directly to the baseball and allowing his barrel to finish strong over the back shoulder; chance for some power to project with frame and way barrel works. Moves well underway for his size and helps him on defense around the bag. On the hill went two innings walking one and giving up two hits. Hands stay wide as he remains tall on mound through higher tucked front knee; starts momentum down the hill turning back knee inside. Arm is strong with full swing and extension out front from 3/4 release; when arm swing is on time ball comes out better and projects on the mound. FB 77-79 working up through the zone with bits of run to the arm side. CB 67-68 loose slurvy actions flashing late sweep; mainly used when ahead in the count.

9/23/18 - Rising Stars Showcase - Six-foot-1, 190-pounds, large, physical frame with strength throughout the body particularly in the shoulders and the lower half. Pennell did not participate in the defensive portion of the event having to leave due to an emergency. At the plate Pennell shows quick-to-fast hands that he uses to whip the bat through the hitting zone with present above average speed. Pennell shows present pull side power from a middle-left approach. He shows a consistent barrel path that he keeps in the hitting zone a long time. From a slightly crouched and open stance, Pennell uses a short leg lift and stride to initiate his swing. Drops his hands into launch position before exploding through the hitting zone with excellent use of the lower half. Power really projects for future over-the-fence potential in the future.
