I got my first look at Batrez and his stuff is what really stood out to me. In his one inning out of relief, he ran the FB at 86-88 mph that had life and seemed to explode out of his hand. He flashed a CH at 73 mph that appears to be a work in progress but it showcased tremendous depth and heavy arm side fade away from a LHH. His best pitch however was the CB. It sat 67-70 mph with a tight 12/6 shape and once he found command for it late against the first batter he faced, he was able to really turn it over and find results. Hitters looked uncomfortable in the box against him as his stuff is raw and seems to still be progressing which is a good sign as he is already getting results on the mound. His delivery is simple with a short leg kick and he moves free and easy on the bump and comes downhill with an over the top release. Batrez has the potential to be a real weapon for the Rancho Bernardo pitching staff as they look to make another deep playoff run in 2025.
