Positional Profile: SS/2B

Defense: Quality actions. Light feet. Works low to the ground and plays through the baseball with good rhythm. Sure glove with clean funnel/exchange. Comfort moving both ways. Ability to stay up the middle down the line.
Arm: RH. INF - 79 mph. Short/loose action. Easy effort. More in the tank. Avg. quickness to release.  6/6 accurate throws during workout.

1/09/22

Physical: 5-9, 150 pounds; Average, athletic build. 7.19 runner in the 60.

Offensively: RHH. Open setup, with feet shoulder width apart; bat positioned at a 45 degree angle. Short take back with the hands with an up and down stride for timing. Stays behind the ball while showing an average effort from the legs. Showed a direct swing path with a two handed finish.  More groundballs than line drives and flyballs with a peak exit velocity of 89.00 MPH via Trackman. Simple overall swing. Hands work inside the ball nicely. Present barrel accuracy.

Defensively: Starts with a low to the ground setup; uses prep hop while playing low to the ground. Quality footwork. Hands are soft and out in front with a seamless transfer. Moderate arm circle while using various arm slots. INF - 75.00 MPH.  Ability to stay up the middle down the line.

7/16/21

Body: 5-9, 150-pounds. Proportional slight build, some speed to his baseball athleticism.
Hit: RHH. Slightly open and even stance with front foot elevated, light leg kick to hitting position, two-hand finish. Blast Motion scores 54/67/37. Singled twice in day one with clean linedrive singles to left and right field. In game hitting results matchup well with blast scores and trackman spray chart; high contact and average hitter with little pop.
Power: 88 max exit velocity
Arm: RH. INF - 77 mph. Longer arm swing makes it imperative he make a quality throw with velocity. Shorter arm plays with less time to think. Showed well with a backhand play in the 5.5 hole gunning out the runner.
Defense:  Positioned himself well, at his best charging the ball, quality prep step, limited lateral reach.
Run: 7.04 runner in the 60.

10/11/20

Body5-8, 145-pounds. Smaller athletic build with room to fill out.
Hit: RH. Narrow base with upright upper body and rhythmic active hands in stance. Starts movements early and uses a slow and simple forward stride. Hands pullback and gets some good internal rotation (coil).  Smooth swing that is on a level plane. Better on barrelling lower pitches than higher pitches. Not afraid to let the ball get deep. Hit balls into both gaps throughout the round.
Power89 mph exit velocity. Gap to gap power potential.
ArmRH. INF - 78 mph. Longer arm action that comes out of a higher over the top slot. 4/6 accurate throws throughout the round. Slower to release.
DefenseShowed good defensive actions. Light and quick feet that gave him good lateral movement  Fields out in front and funnels quickly up his body.
Run: 7.09 runner in the 60.

6/07/19

Viola’s smaller, 5-foot-8, 140-pound frame did not impact his ability to stand out for the West Coast Blackdogs 14U team even without seeing the results he may have wanted. The right-handed hitter was robbed of a line drive single by Caranto at shortstop, but showcased quick hands and a short path. He sets up open before squaring off with a smoother load, and has present spray line drive power. I enjoyed watching him move around at shortstop where his glove work was clean and confident, and his leadership qualities might have been my favorite part of his all-around game. He had a competitive-intensity that will only help drive him to continue getting better throughout his high school career.
