Mayer has the look of a future professional shortstop at 6-foot-3, 180-pounds. The USC commit opened up running a hand-timed 6.92 60-yard dash. It’s a graceful, athletic gait that eats up ground with long strides. Mayer showed off his easy power from the left side during BP routinely peppering balls off the fence and showing a new wrinkle with his opposite field power in his second round. Last year at the Underclass Area Code Game, Mayer had a noticeably significant coil that caused the barrel to lag, that is now gone thanks to the added strength. Defensively the arm is big, strong, and accurate to go with plus defensive actions across the board.

2021 Eastlake (USC) SS, 6-foot-3 175 pounds, L/R: Healthy and back playing at an elite high school level. Hammered a fastball inside for a double off the right-center field fence. Defensively put in his best performance and look comfortable and confident overall. Keoni Cavaco and Marcelo Mayer were the only hitters that had a chance versus Jake Rons. 4.5 on a ground out to second base.
3/03/19
Mayer went hitless on the game but flashed plus defensively ability on two double-play balls and showed off his arm strength in gunning out a runner from deep in the 5.5 hole.

The sophomore infielder is quickly making a name for himself as one of the better prospects in the county. Standing 6'3" and 175 pounds he has the size and stature to take over at third after Keoni Cavaco graduates but displays the footwork and arm strength to stay at short. Showed lateral quickness, good hand-eye and a high baseball IQ. Looked comfortable in the box in a difficult left-on-left matchup. Short and quick to the ball but lacks plus lower half drive. Inevitable physical and mental maturity will bode well for his future and should put him on the 2021 MLB Draft radar.

Southern California recruit, lean and athletic, 6-foot-2, 170-pound shortstop has soft hands on the infield, and a smooth left-handed stroke at the plate, showcased an uphill path through the zone with some strength.
2018 Underclass Area Code Games - USC commit. 6-foot-2, 170-pounds. Long and lean frame with natural athleticism. Looks the part. Left-handed hitter that graded out very highly for our scouts at Area Code Underclass Games. Loose wrists at the dish with a flat path. Deeper load down and back. Strong bottom hand. Some tendency to pull, but with continued physical maturity he should be able to drive the ball to all fields. Defense is above average across the board. Able to throw from all angles with accuracy. Footwork is fluid with fair range to both sides.
