5/30/26
Mason Smith, Palm Desert (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: OF/2B A true CF profile with both hit tools, strong arm, and quick runner. Name to watch as he matures.
Body: 5-8, 148-pounds. Proportional frame with physical features. Will grow into his body and mature.
Hit: RHH. Narrow and even stance, in a 60/40 weight split. Hands are close to his back ear and cock back during his toe tap load. He hinges into the back hip well firing the lower half first, allowing room for the hands to clear. Stays on plane well, able to let the ball travel or catch the ball out infront. Gap-to-gap approach, looking to do damange in the air and on a line. 69.9 mph bat speed with 12 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 97 max exit velocity, averaged 88.6 mph. 347' max distance.
Arm: RH. OF-91 mph. Extremely strong and accurate arm, consistently putting the ball directly on a line and over the base. Ball jumps out of his hand and has carry through the throw.
Defense: Attacks the ball with authority and has a fundamental 2-step shuffle. Reads hops well, along with smooth transfers.
ATH: 6.76 runner in the 60. 1.67 and 3.82 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.
Vizual Edge: 65.53 Edge Score

Smith made the lengthy trip out from the Palm Desert area to Malibu, but the athletic CF profile 2028 made his presence felt throughout the day. During the workout portion of the day, Smith flashed his dynamic athleticism and defensive upside by posting one of the top 60s of the day at 6.76 while uncorking a 91 MPH throw from RF with accuracy to home plate during the defensive workout. His swing has natural rhythm with upward-trending metrics, including new personal bests on the day with a 74.3 MPH bat speed and 15.2 Gs of rotational acceleration. His BP rounds were sound with a 96.9 MPH max EV for the day while averaging just a tick under 90 MPH on all his batted balls during batting practice. He his 72% of his balls in the air with authority and produced a 347' max distance. As strong as the workout for Smith was, he backed it up by posting an in-game base hit in his first at-bat and took consistently quality ABs over the day while showing in-game instincts to defend at the top of the scale. Smith has more than proved he is a name that college coaches should be keeping tabs on with his athleticism, baseball ability, feel to perform, and future upside to add strength to his currently wiry athletic build.

Mason Smith, Palm Desert (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: OF/2B CF who displays good feel for the barrel and sound defensive profile
Body: 5-8, 135-pounds. Lean, athletic frame with plenty of room for further physical development.
Hit: RHH. Sets up upright and balanced with hands at ear level, a raised back elbow, and an active lower half. Shows a subtle barrel waggle before initiating the load by sitting into the back knee as the hands work back. Utilizes a small leg kick with a toe-tap trigger for timing, followed by an aggressive yet controlled stride forward. Turns hips at foot strike to create good separation, with hands quick through the zone and extending well out front. Works on an uphill path while staying on top of the ball, producing loud contact with a consistent line-drive approach. Shows gap-to-gap power with a high two-handed finish. 68.6 mph bat speed with 9 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 98 max exit velocity, averaged 88.7 mph. 352' max distance.
Arm: RH. OF-86 mph. Compact arm path working from a high 3/4 slot. Aggressive arm action generates good carry on throws. Shows decent feel for accuracy, though natural cut is present at times.
Defense: Takes good routes with strong reads off the bat. Works with short, quick, and efficient footwork, consistently positioning himself behind the ball and staying in line with the bag. Shows the range and instincts to stick in CF.
ATH: 6.86 runner in the 60. 1.65 and 3.80 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 22.10 max vertical.
Vizual Edge: 63.25 Edge Score
