Positional Profile: OF/OF Rhythmic, consistent swing and a reliable arm. More physical maturity should add strength and power as he continues to develop.
Body: 6-0, 196-pounds. Average build with present athleticism in both lower and upper half.
Hit: RHH. Narrow lower half with a slight knee bend. Upper half stays tall. Back elbow is flared outward. Bat is angled upward towards the 3rd base line. Stance is postured up. Small leg lift with a twist to initiate the load into the lower half. Hands show a small cast in sync with the load into rear leg. Very rhythmic swing. Upper half turns well and lower half works in sync with the upper half. Consistent barrels. 77.8 mph bat speed with 19 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 103 max exit velocity, averaged 90.3 mph. 384' max distance.
Arm: RH. OF-83 mph. Starts with a winding back path. Upper 3/4 release point. Short, loose release.
Defense: Approaches the ball at an even pace. Strong crow hop. Works from lower half towards upper half throughout his motions. Stays balanced.
ATH: 6.94 runner in the 60. 1.60 and 3.81 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.
Mecucci had an extremely loud performance going 3-5 with 2 homers, a double, and 4 RBIs. The sophomore has a physical frame at 6 '1, 190lbs and immediately catches your eye. After flying out to CF and popping up to the catcher in his first two at-bats, Mecucci capitalized for the rest of the day. In his 3rd at-bat, he lifted a ball to deep CF that easily cleared the fence. He stayed through a fastball and caught the ball out in front and just backspun the ball over the fence. The ball jumped off his bat. In his next AB he hit a line drive to left-center that cleared the wall by a solid 10 feet. The RHH has quick and clean motions. He has a slight toe-tap, but is direct to the ball and moves extremely well and mature for his age. His swing allows him to stay inside the ball and make contact with the ball when his bat is at top speed. In his 6th game since returning from injury, Mecucci now has 4 home runs and a whopping .560/ 1.150/ 1.710 slash line that should be getting everyone’s attention. Mecucci is a name to watch out for as the season comes to a close. His physical nature, smooth swing, and quick hands make him a player with major upside heading into the summer.
