Positional Profile: 1B/C

Body: 6-5, 190 lbs. Larger projectable frame. Lean and athletic throughout.

Hit: Athletic set up. Slight rock onto backside in stance and uses a simple forward stride in positive move. Hands/barrel load into scalp. Smooth stroke. Back elbow works under. Hands stay tight to his body throughout the swing. Bat speed is + that is dominated by strong fast hands. Slots bat well as it enters the zone. Flat-uphill path. Balanced. Pounded an LD single to the RC gap.

Power: 98mph max exit velo. 355ft max distance. HR pullside power. Bat speed of 73mph and rotational acceleration of 18gs paints a projectable power ceiling.

Defense: Showed good feel around the bag and the ability to make tough picks and adjust to errant throws.

Run: 7.44 laser timed 60.

PBR Northern CA Preseason All-State - Very long and young medium frame; Flexible and skinny with very high waist and lots of space for added room on frame. Heavy feet should improve as he matures (8.63 60-yd). Wide base behind the plate with bow and arrow throws from higher release; arm strength is present and can continue to utilize lower half for more strength/quickness in throws (2.25-2.35 pop, 67 MPH). Wider, balanced stance showing good posture with high back elbow/high hands; rocks into back hip as hands have slight move into back shoulder. Bat works on upward path with pullside focus; flashes of quickness and leverage with projectable power as he matures (72 exit velo).

NCTB Fall Classic - Medium frame with length in it and projects to be a large frame with long limbs; very lean currently with light muscles and tight waist. Balanced stance with even, lower hands utilizing leaning load into back hip as front leg lifts and tucks into hip. Hands stay quiet and tight while slightly turning barrel top to pitcher before working direct to pitcher with high full finish; some quickness developing with ability to stay inside and square up ball and showed ability to barrel ball in game. Wider stance behind the plate with quiet glove and clean footwork on throws to 2nd (2.16-2.2 Pop); strong arm that shows flashes of more when moving in sequence and having arm be more compact. Athletic runner with length in stride and ability to move quickly; long limbs show times where they can get out of time with body which is to be expected with young athlete.

PBR Northern CA Underclass Games - 5-foot-10, 125-pounds, long and lean young player with good physical proportionality. Body still long way from maturity, which also must be kept in mind regarding his physical tools. Older brother is one of the region’s top 2019 pitchers (Jake Putnam) who has a plus arm, which could play out as the younger Putnam develops. Offensively he has a balanced swing and his hands work well to and through the ball. Hits with a good base and allows hands to work with good separation, eventually will develop some loft type power. Game at-bats showed ability to stay balanced and adjust to offpseed pitches as he worked a couple of breaking balls into the middle of the field. Defensively he sits in good receiving position and showed good technique, good leg agility. Putnam put up some pop times that don’t jump off the page yet but as a 2022 he’s got time to shave those down. His transfer is good, tends to stand up too tall as he comes out of the crouch which slows the times and takes away ability to drive the ball toward 2nd. Something to work on as his arm strength and overall physical strength improves.
