Oliver Price, Castaic High (CA), 2027
Positional Profile: 1B/LHP An athletic two-way profile with a simple, line-drive swing that stays inside the ball and clean actions on the dirt with accurate throws. On the mound he's a repeatable, athletic mover who rides the slope well, pairing a sweepy breaking ball with a changeup that tunnels off the FB.
Body: 5-11, 161-pounds. Wiry and loose frame. Room to fill.
Delivery: Athletic and repeatable delivery. Smooth lower half as he stays tall and rides the slope well. Stays sideways as long as possible.
Arm Action: LH. Smooth arm swing coming from a higher 3/4 slot.
FB: T79, 76-78 mph. Solid feel for the FB in the zone. Somewhat funky slot with good ASR. T2189, 2040 average rpm.
SL: 65-67 mph. Slurvy slider with lots of horizontal movement and strong depth. T2100, 2060 average rpm.
CH: 70-72 mph. Good fade with vertical movement. Tunnels well off the FB. T1503, 1462 average rpm.
ATH: 7.30 runner in the 60. 1.70 and 4.01 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.

Hit: LHH. Wide stance with the hands high and the back elbow flared. A slight toe tap load gets him started. Front side starts the swing with the hands following. Stays inside the ball and catches it out front, working a line-drive approach.
Power: 93 max exit velocity, averaged 87.9 mph. 256' max distance.
Arm: LH. INF-81 mph. Strong arm with accurate throws, consistently around the tag zone.
Defense: Clean fielder with smooth transfers. Looks to get to the short hop.
ATH: 7.30 runner in the 60. 1.70 and 4.01 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.
Vizual Edge: 66.49 Edge Score

This was my first time getting eyes on Price, and I came away interested in the future potential for the wiry-built LH hitter from the Coyotes program. Mainly locked in on his at-bats for the day, Price showed a smooth swing with the ability to sequence his turn and hand path effectively to give him adjustability, plate coverage, and bat-to-ball feel. Price uses his lower half to go down and get lower pitches with a direct hand/barrel path that is geared for contact. He stung a trio of balls through the middle while still getting solid contact on a chopper through the middle when he was out front on a low and away CHG from the Vikings righthander. I got some hitterish vibes from Price, and with a frame that has plenty of room to add strength in the coming years, he may grow into more impact in the future. His actions are sound at 1B with some athleticism to be a solid defender at the spot or enough in the tank to play a corner OF spot. Plus, in discussions with people at the game, he adds a solid pitching profile working into the mid-80’s with his FB and has some upside there. Price will be a name I will keep tabs on in the coming future and want to get eyes on again.
