BAWS 2019 - Plascencia has been a name that we’ve seen plenty of times over the last year as he had a great summer last year and a strong spring as well. Compact, muscular frame with quick twitch attributes. The tools continue to stand out and they absolutely carry over to game time. Ran a 6.83 60-yd before staying to the middle of the field during BP crushing a few balls deep over the CF fence; the swing shows late bat speed through the zone with easy leverage on the baseball from his lower half (91 EV). Behind the plate he was regularly 1.94-1.97 with throws having life on the bag (82 MPH) with very quick transition and a future plus arm. In the first set of games he made a lot of hard contact reaching on a few errors, but having a lot of balls end up right at fielders. That all changed on Sunday where he singled to RF then ended the game with a long 2B into RCF; ball was hot off the bat. His defense was also on display during the games catching a runner at 3rd base and showing strong blocking and receiving skills. As good as the skills are, his personality in the dugout and on the field show he’s got a future at the next level. Someones going to get a very talented player late in the recruiting cycle

1/27/19 - PBR N CA Preseason All-State - Medium frame with tiny waist and strong muscle throughout; physical build and explosive athlete that translates very well to his game (6.93 60-yd). Agile with quick lower half able to move freely and in sequence, ripping off very fast times while keeping the ball on the bag; arm is compact and very strong with quick release. Showed top velo for catcher at event (1.80-1.94 pop, 80 MPH). Balanced stance with high flared elbows and bat flat on shoulder; slow, controlled gather into back hip as hands work back. Regularly on time as swing is controlled, yet aggressive and flashed plus bat speed with very quick turns creating easy leverage; showed a professional BP where he worked middle of the field and deep into both gaps before letting loose on last couple swings showing off current pop and crushing a ball over deep CF (89 exit velo). One of the top uncommitted 2020 players in State and continues to improve every time we see him.

10/27-10/29/18 - NCTB Fall Classic - Phyisical 6-foot-0 190-pounds, sturdy frame with current strength showing muscle in thick upper half; mature build but very strong and very athletic for build. One of top uncommitted 2020 catchers in Northern California. Relaxed, balanced stance showing slight crouch with flat bat on back shoulder and wider elbows away from the body. Quick bat showing plus raw pull-side power (95 exit velocity) both in game and during BP. In game home run staying back on breaking ball and crushing ball over left-centerfield fence; followed up with loud double off left field wall turning around a fastball. Very good defensive catcher as well, with arm that is above average (79 mph from pop, 1.94-2.0) and smooth blocking ability keeping recoveries close; showed snap throws to bags and with back picks regularly on the bag. Athletic runner (7.24 60-yd) that moves quickly down line and uses athleticism all around field. Very vocal teammate and leader behind the dish.

9/28/18 - Plascencia stood out with a strong batting practice where he drove balls deep into both gaps and then behind the plate defensively during the games. The senior catcher has a strong frame with wide, sloped shoulders and a barreled chest to match. His physical maturity is capped, but there's plenty of muscle currently on this medium frame while showing quick actions behind the plate and when hitting. Offensively he has a lot of pre-pitch movement with his high hands and high back elbow bouncing the bat off his back. His toe-tap timing allows him to work his hands to pull the bat back to N/S and then directly back. He's got quick hands that work on a slight uphill plane with a strong backside driving through the ball. The timing of his pre-pitch needs to be matched with the pitcher or the bat can be late to the zone, but he showed patience and the ability to make hard contact during the games. Defensively he showed quick pops (1.97, 1.85 Pop) in game with a caught stealing while showing a quick transition from the glove to match with an average arm. His receiving and blocking skills were also on display keeping runners from advancing and showing a firm yet soft glove hand keeping it low in the zone, especially on breaking balls.

6/1/18-6/3/18 - BAWS 2018 - Physically well-put-together 5-foot-11 180-pound body on a durable type frame. One of better 2020 catching prospects in Northern California. Tight, crouched stance at plate using foot lift for timing; very strong ability to stay loaded in back hip and let loose on ball into gaps. Excellent defensive skills behind the plate showing above average arm and quickness in transition and release (1.84-1.91 Pop); regularly on bag with excellent throws. High knees when running, but still gets down the line well for size and body type; 4.56 H-1st.
