3/05/20

vs Vacaville HS - Fresno State signee; had a good game with three knocks to RF and consistent at-bats. Big and physical at 6-foot-3, 220-pounds or so. Played 3rd base in this one though projects as a 1st baseman in college. Quiet hitting approach, clearly has an approach that he trusts and took what the Vacaville pitchers gave him, which was staying away and making him take knocks to right field, obviously to stay away from his power, which is pretty prodigious. Strong hands and good bat control, he's a RHH with an ability to hit for average and punish mistakes for damage.

at Acalanes HS - St. Mary's commit; middle of the order presence for Clayton Valley. He's a big broad body with strength in the lower body and yet still with a young body that can significantly improve as a collegiate player. He's got a hitterish presence in the box and possesses the ability to get the barrel to quality stuff and drive the baseball with pretty little effort. He was one of the hitters who pounded a ball that was an extra base hit on another day, but not into the teeth of the wind on this day. Showed ability to hit the fastball and breaking ball though did get off balance on the curveball and relied on throwing his hands at it. Run-producing RBI type of hitter with good idea of what he's doing and ohw to hit in situations. Not a runner, does posses a good arm and is a capable corner defender. It's the bat that drew St. Mary's to him and what could have some scouts on him next spring.

2/19/19

St. Mary’s commit, has a big body that looks to add power as he shapes good weight and learns to get more loft from his swing. He showed a quiet and solid setup being very patient at the plate. Pierce will need to quiet down his hands as he moves up, but he showed the ability to barrel mistakes and work counts taking walks when he didn’t get his pitch. Clayton Valley expects a big year offensively from him. On the mound his FB sat 83-85 T86 MPH. Showed feel for a BB and cutter, but was inconsistent with his release point and struggled to throw strikes with all three pitches. When in the zone he was not hit hard, but the big thing for him will be filling up the zone.

8/25/18

PBR Northern CA Underclass Games - St. Mary’s College commit. 6-foot-2, 210-pounds, strong broad body type, looks the part of a corner infielder, chance to pack on man strength as he physically matures. Offensively he has some tools and likely will get pro attention during his senior year. Starts with tall narrow open set-up and has a stride similar to that of Cody Bellinger. Fast powerful hands, easy pull side power, throws barrel through contact with buggy-whip life while creating good separation to and through contact. Consistently found the barrel, including in both game at-bats what saw him pound the ball on the pull side and to centerfield. Exit velocity was up to 89 mph. Defensively he bounced around well, short arm action, confident thrower, moved around the bag well. Also pitches and has talent that certainly will have him on the mound through his high school years. Overhand slot, loose arm, some effort in the delivery, good direction, late separation caused some control struggles. Fastball had some variance in velocity as he was likely adding and subtracting. Occasional good life on the fastball. Curveball was not big but simple and effective with 11/5 small break and thrown with feel and finish. Saw some pitches in low-80s that were cutter-like. Chance to keep evolving on mound for sure.
