3/25/26
The No. 1 player in the country for the 2028 class was once again electric in this outing. With a cap of 75 pitches - he threw 76 - Pence made the most of his 3.2 innings pitched. With a fastball that touched 99 mph a half dozen times, Pence lived in the 96-98 mph range all day. In fact, his final pitch was 98 mph. And while he scattered five hits, he only gave up one earned run to the fourth batter of the game. Aside from the velocity, the fastball flashes life as it enters the zone and slight arm side run. He threw his changeup at 88-89 mph with its diving action away from righties and tailing life, the pitch induced whiffs and weak contact twice. However, it’s his slider that is the ultimate separator for Pence. It’s a plus pitch now with late, sharp biting action. He got 14 whiffs on the pitch and only two were touched by a bat. He throws the pitch in any count using it as both a setup and putaway pitch. Doesn’t matter what side of the box the hitter is on, he’s going to see a slider. He moved it around the zone with ease busting lefties on the back foot and going away to righties with it. He would do the opposite as well. Pence is also a very skilled hitter for Santiago and finished with two hits and two-RBI. He's amongst the team leaders in every offensive category proving himself as a legitimate two-way talent.
