6/02/19

BAWS 2019 - Solid, large frame with width in shoulders and length in the limbs (7.33 60yd). Gould was another guy I’d see have a strong Spring season and he put up strong numbers to showcase those tools have a chance for more development. Uses a toe tap technique to get on time allowing his hands to lift through contact with a compact swing made to drive balls into the gaps; showed easy carry to the gaps focusing on the pullside during BP (89 EV). In games he put together consistent AB’s fouling off tough pitches and creating a lot of hard contact picking up a couple singles to the pullside; missed a couple more extra-base hits on loud deep fly outs. The hips are loose and able to get low allowing him to have good lateral quickness for 3B; compact, high release arm is loose and able to make the throws on the move (78 MPH). The arm looked like it could fit at multiple positions and the range showed up in games playing 2B/3B. I think the arm can be an area he can keep adding to fill out the 3B profile, but I like the athletic actions and present hit tool.

3/19/19

Vs Mitty - Uncommitted. Large frame with squared width in shoulder and length through torso and legs; very lean projectable build that can continue to add to frame. Stands slightly open with slight crouch keeping hands even at back shoulder with high back elbow. Front foot changes between toe tap and foot lift and hold for timing as the hands turn the bat towards the pitcher with slight movement back. Swing works on upwards path with quick fire driving back leg into ground and swinging over straight front leg. Timing was inconsistent and he reached for some pitches leading to weak contact, but the skills are there to be a very good hitter. Athletic out of box with quick feet as he leans over legs (4.45-4.65 H-1st). At 3B showed body control and an easy arm with plenty of strength to stay at position. Didn’t have any opportunities during the game, but showed some agility and quickness at the position during pre-game with a strong glove hand. Definitely not the best results for Gould during viewing, but the actions are there and he’s got a bright future.

2/22/19

2/22/19 - vs Monte Vista - Uncommitted; in this one look he looked the part of one of the 2021 hitters to know in the area, 6-foot-0, 180-pounds and strongly built, right-hand hitter with an awful lot of polish for a young player. The hands are quick, he is ready to hit each pitch and the trigger happens easily. He showed the ability to cover an upper-80s fastball away and to stay back on a breaking ball and put the barrel on it. The hit tool is present and the power potential will start to emerge as he goes through his high school career. Hitter-ish is the term for him. Defensively made accurate pre-game throws and the arm graded fairly. Would have to see more of him to get a better feel of the defensive tool/skill set.
